My wife filled out her I140 petition.

On the form, she mentioned that she would be adjusting her status inside of the US but I, her husband will pursue consular processing.
My question is, once the I140 is approved, do I need to file something else or just wait for NVC to contact me? She has a very strong case and the priority date is current. Let's say the petition will be approved on May 1st, 2025. The priority date is current. How quickly NVC will contact me? I asked ChatGPT but I want to be sure.

If she is the principal beneficiary is doing AOS, and you, a derivative beneficiary, will be doing Consular Processing, she will need to file I-824 after her AOS is approved (or perhaps together with her AOS but they will not process it until her AOS is approved) so that after her AOS is approved, they can send the petition to NVC for you to follow to join.

So by just getting her I140 approved, NVC will not proceed with my case? Her AOS must be approved and then she will file I-824 which takes 12 month to be approved. Wow. This means I have to wait about two-three years just to get my Interview Scheduled.

That's correct. The alternatives are:
1. If she is maintaining an H1b/L1 status, you can go to the US in H4/L2 and then do AOS together with her. You would probably be stuck in the US for a while while AOS is pending.
2. Or, she can do Consular Processing too, and you guys can both go for the interview at the consulate together.

H/L visas are dual intent and don’t require advance parole to travel out the US, if that is what you mean by “stuck”.
