My Fiancee is not a citizen by birth but she says she became citizen when she was underage and her parents became citizens ( I dont think she knows how it works). But she never applied for Naturalization Certificate. I m on H1B visa and my visa expires on Dec 2010 and I m planning to apply for GC thru her.If she applies for natuiralization certificate now it will take atleast 4 months. What are my options ? Will this be a problem for my GC process ?

She is probably right , PROVIDED : she was a GC holder as a minor ( Under 18 yrs ) while her any one parent ( atleast) became a Naturalised US Citizen , and furhter , she also stayed or entered in USA as GC holder. In such case she is already a USC on the day her parent/s became USC or on the day she entered USA as a GC holder thereafter.. All she has to do is file Form N-600 to get Certificate of Citizenship . She does not have to file N-400 . She will get her citizenship certificate within 2-3 months at the most . Then she can sponsor you for your GC.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. It took 7 months for my friend that is a cop to get the naturalization. I m not sure why. I m just worried if it takes about the same time for my fiancee then i will have only a couple of months left to stay in the US.
What is the latest I can apply before my visa expires ?

N 600 is different then getting naturalized...ur confusing yourself..as Radni explained she just have to file N600 and not N 400.

here is an example for California, might be much better time frame if you live under Vermont or Texas processing centers.

Field Office Processing Dates for San Francisco CA as of: October 31, 2009
Form Form Name Processing Timeframe:
I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status 4 Months
I600 Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative July 02, 2009
I600A Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition July 02, 2009
N400 Application for Naturalization 5 Months
N600 Application for Certification of Citizenship 5 Months

I wish more naturalized and LPR parents would educate their children on how it works. Seems like she is not even 100% sure if she is a citizen.
But she never applied for Naturalization Certificate.
Did she apply for a US passport?

And if she wants a certificate to prove citizenship, it would be the Certificate of Citizenship, which is not exactly the same thing as a Naturalization certificate. And she would apply for that using form N-600. However, she doesn't need it for your GC process if she has a US passport.

If she is old enough to make the decision whom to marry, then she is old enough to find out her status in the US.
She's old enough to do the work to find it out, but it's still going to require some work to find out, if she is starting from a base of zero immigration knowledge because her parents haven't already educated her about it.
