Sorry to hear about what happend to you and your family. What is your specific question? Are the US embassy guys not accepting your application for replacement passport as you do not have any US id?

If the US Embassy is giving you trouble because they are concerned about the authenticity of the birth certificate, obtain a new birth certificate from the state you were born in.

hey,my question here is,what am i supposed to do if the embassy is giving me such a hard time?cause for obvious reasons i dont have all the documents thay wanht but i think i have the necessary ones.

i am an american citizen.my question here is what next do i do if the embassy here is giving me such a hard time cause i dont have all the documents they want but i have my birth certificate, school record, pictures thats it :(

There could be two reasons, one is that if your dad was a diplomat when you were born you are NOT eligible for US citizenship even if you were born in the US.

Some countries there is so much forgery that the US embassy has to make double sure that it is not a fraud case. Unfortunately Nigeria has more than its fair share of e-mail frauds committed on a global scale and they may doing extra due diligence in your case.

I don't know if you could sue the Dept. of State in the US for undue delays, but you could check with some through US lawyers using e-mail.

Good luck and keep us posted on developments.

Other than a passport or certificate of naturalization, I would say an official birth certificate issued by a American state government would be the only document needed to prove U.S. citizenship. It may help if you could get your U.S. birth certificate attested by the consular section of the U.S. State Department.

No, the birth certificate does not prove US citizenship, since children of diplomats born in the US also get US birth certificates, but are not US citizens.
My understanding is that the only thing that proves US citizenship is a US passport.

The basis for this person's claim to US citizenship is that she was born here and lived in the US till she was 2 years old. An authentic American birth certificate would prove that she was born in America. Based on the information contained in the certificate, more specifically her father's name, the Dept. of State could easily run a records check to see whether or not her father had a diplomatic status at the time of her birth. If the father was not a foreign diplomat, then she has a valid claim to US citizenshp and an American passport.

If the US passport is the only thing that proves US citizenship, how does a natural born American prove their citizenship in order to obtain a passport?

I dont wanna come on to strong or too blunt but
This smells bad to me
Theres tons of scammers coming outa Nigeria

So this is not a real claim , if SHE had a real claim would've come up with more details instead of "us" just speculating
So please dont feel so sorry for the poor "girl " and try to help her out as in send her $$$ or anyother crap , I am pretty sure she got a sexy pic also
So you your own judgement

p.s.
She lost her "american passport" during that coupe ;-) and woke up 26 years later
thats a perfect age for a stripper

Peace
I dont mean to be offensive to all you guys that honestly tried to help the "poor girl " but its a phony trust me

clisp ... that would be kind of prejudiced, wouldn't it - unless you or others received inquiries from the OP to provide your social security number, send money or whatever I'd have the courtesy not to fall into superficial discrimination attacks. I guess if somebody would plan such a scam it would not make much sense that this person claims to be from Nigeria. Either way, this is a forum not a fundraiser - so the most one could/should lose here is some spare time.

Are you by the way sure that all the girls selling girl-scout-cookies are really girl scouts

Now, you bring it to my attention. I did buy cookies from the girl scouts outside of the supermarket.

heheh.. but again, those cookies taste good and i do not mind buying from them , and hopefully, helping them one way or the others.

Apart from the cookie issue ... the OP posted that she had already a passport - the one she lost in the past. In that case, would it not even be easier to get a new one ? I'd assume that the US government has records about who received a passport an who has not. Also if she received a passport in the past, apparently the diplomat-or-not father would not be a problem.

And by the way, Nigeria went through a whole array of millitary coups, almost like other countries have elections. Not mentioning what went on before the OP was born, there was a coup in 1983 when the second Republic was overthrown .... the OP would have been three years old at that time. 'Of course' there were also the coups in 1985 and most recently in 1990. I guess that would be plenty of occasion for anybody to lose some paperwork ... if not your life.

Alex

I had a family friend who was born here while her father was a foreign diplomat. I guess her parents lied and she was able to obtain U.S citizenship/passport. She was caught when she was in her twenties and her citizenship and passport were taken away.

i believe i read a post from JoeF regarding this subject.

However, i believe the law says if you are the subject of United States of America, your child who was born in US who will be the US citizen.

However, since diplomat is not the subject of United States Of America, his/her child who was born in US whom won't be the US citizen.
