Lets start a thread for folks whose papers have reached Mumbai Consulate, and who have interviews coming up shortly.

my AC140 papers reached Mumbai on May 23, and they created a case after a long delay on July 2.

I phoned them and they said interview is likely in September.

Any other Mumbai CPers out there, please post your details...

Likely interview - F4 in August / September.

My papers had reached the consulate on May 28th, 2003 and the case was entered into their system by 03rd June, 2003. I expect an interview in August / September. My category is F4.

No news from Mumbai US Consulate Yet!!!

Hi Guys,
As we all are in same boat would need some information from you all.
My ACI140 papers were sent to US Consulate Mumbai, In first week of June and they received it on 9 June. After that my lawyer hasn't heard anything from them. My understanding was, once Consulate receives the papers they keep the lawyer informed about the receival of papers and would start the processing.
My lawyers has not yet received anything from them.
I would also like to know approx. how many days I should wait before I do follow up with Mumbai US consulate. When would I get the case#?. What is the contact phone# at Mumbai US Consulate and when is the best time to call them?

I would highly appreciate if you guys could provide me these details.

Regards,
Santy

I am Confused and tensed!!!

Hi all Mumbai CPers,
My papers were sent to Mumbai consulate on 27th May 2003 and they received it on 30th May. Till so far there is no communication from Mumbai consulate. After waitng for do long, I call Mumbai consulate yesterday, and was surprised to hear that they haven't received my papers yet.
I had sent my papers (Attoney Certified I 140) to them by Express Mail and I have tracking info which says that the packet was delivered on May 30th. I hope that the person with whom I spoke, provided me misleading information. But what is bothering me is ,we haven't received any communication from US Consulate Mumbai. So guys, would like to know your thought on my case. My lawyers says that we should wait for somemore time to hear from US consulate, but I am getting a little bit jumpy. Does any body know what procedure US consulate follows? Do they intimate you once they receive the papers? How many days they would take to create the case?
As my case is ACI140, there is nothing I can find out at NVC.
Any thoughts/input would be highly appreciated.

Santy

hey santy:

Normal mailing time for p3 to india is about 1 - 1.5 weeks. Then assume once bbay has received it nothing will happen for another 1 week. Then the following week sometime the p3 gets entered in bbay consulate system . So general rule of thumb is to wait for 3 - 4 weeks from the date of mailing the p3 to bbay to hear back about the case number assigned.

Something similar has happened with a friend of mine from north dakota. His case was reaceived by bbay consulate mid april 03 . Then bbay consulate sent his lawyers an email with a case number on 5/22 but he has still not been scheduled for an interview.

Suggestion: Try calling bbay consulate again coz they have 2-3 operators so you may get a different response.

take care!

Hi rohufish,palstosh
I am in a smilar boat as you guys. I ahve also applied for ACI-140 and would like to keep in touch with you guys .
So,did you guys initally opted for CP nad still went for AC I-140 CP proceesing? Mine situation is same as above and have mailed packet3 with a "hardship letter" to mumabi comsulate and waiting for their reply on this. Do they tell you the decision right away (whether they will accpet my AC I-140 case or not) or they take 1-2 months to let you knwo the decision?

Please email me at europe2002@rediffmail.com

Let me know what special docs you guys are going carry to mumbai sicne its a AC I-140 case.

In AC I-140 case, once the packet is received by the bombay consulate the normal response time about 3-5 weeks but sometimes it can take a little longer like 7 weeks. And at that point bbay consulate sends an email to the attorney with a bmb case number stating case is accepted or a reason why it was not accepted. From the time of the email the interview is scheduled in about 3.5 months. Total process time is about 4-4.5 months in AC I-140!

A friend of mine who received an email on 5/22 from bbay got his interview scheduled for mid sept in bbay. This was a 485 to CP converted AC I-140 case.

Hi,
do I need to apply for i-824 even though i have opted for CP?
I sent my entire set of docs(packet 3 + other required docs) to mumbai for Attorney certified processing. Now someone is telling that i need to file i-824 even though i originally opted for cp and need to send a receipt of it to m umbai consulate.
Any ideas on this?

vermontcp:

I have answered this question in another thread where you had posted this question. YEs 824 receipt is required. Since it was not included in your file you may want to apply for 824 and once u get the receipt mail it to the consulate. Until then the consulate will not process you AC I-140 papers since they will be incomplete.

Thanks Kdivekar! I don't know why i missed it- I thought its only for AOS folks!. I am hoping that mumbai will accept my case if i separately mail the receipt.
Quick question:
1) Do I just need to mail the receipt of I-824 or the actual approval? I ahve heard that the actual approval takes ages . I am hoping its just the recipt of filing I-824 which they need. Any comments?

2) Also,do you know how much time does it to take to get the recipt from INS? A week or more?

3) My I-140 was applied at Vermont service center. Do I need to apply I-824 at the same center? If yes, can u confirm the address for it (reason being i am applying on my own)?
Is the address 75 lower walden st,st albans,VT 05479-0001

You have been a great help!

What has happened has happened. Dont worry about it.

Quick question:
1) Do I just need to mail the receipt of I-824 or the actual approval? I ahve heard that the actual approval takes ages . I am hoping its just the recipt of filing I-824 which they need. Any comments?
Answer: Only Chennai requires I-824 approval. Mumbai and New Delhi do not require I-824 approval. Once you get the I-824 receipt which can take upto 4 weeks...I would recommend recreate AC I-140 packet with I-824 receipt and draft a cover letter explaining why you are resending this AC I-140 packet.

2) Also,do you know how much time does it to take to get the recipt from INS? A week or more?
Answer: Generally 2 weeks from the time BCIS receives it and upto 4 weeks. In very few cases, it has taken longer than 4 weeks. These timelines are general across the board for any BCIS forms receipt to get back to the lawyers/ applicants in absence of lawyers.

3) My I-140 was applied at Vermont service center. Do I need to apply I-824 at the same center? If yes, can u confirm the address for it (reason being i am applying on my own)?
Is the address 75 lower walden st,st albans,VT 05479-0001
Answer: Yes you need to apply to VSC since your I-140 was approved from there. That address looks right! But I would suggest calling National Customer Service Center (800) 375-5283 to reconfirm coz last thing you want is to mail completed 824 form to a wrong address.

Thanks for your prompt response!
I have one dilemma. I have alreday sent my original i-140 approval with the packet. If I resend my case/packet,what to do then? Can I just send a letter explaining that i missed to send i-824 recipt and rest of the stuff is already sent? that way I will just send the explanation letter and i-824 receipt. ANyway, last 2 times i called up mumbai and they kept on telling me that they didn't recieve my case yet which is already driving me crazy as my packet was delivered via dhl on 2nd sept.

If you have a photocopy of your original I-140 include that else explain in the cover letter.

Although your Packet may have reached bbay it may take about 2 weeks for the consulate to acknowledge the recipt. This will happen only when someone from bbay consulate end will make an entry in their computer system. Remember it is one thing for courier to deliver the packet and it is another event for that packet to be entered in bbay consulate system. There is about 2 week lag between the two events.

quick question:
The I-824 application says:
PArt 1 -Information about the person that filed the petition.
After that it has :
1) individual name column (where probably my name will go)
2)Organization name
3) address
4) DOB,SSN etc
My question is: for address ,am I suppose to put my address or company's address. Right after the address column they have DOB,SSN etc column hence I am a bit confused whther i shud provide my address or petitioner address. I am sure the DOB,SSN shud be mine and not company's.
I am filing this out myslef and not going via my attorney (and she told that i can fill it for self). Also, the address i put will determine where INS will send the I-824 recipt.

Any help on this will be appreciated!

for reference I-824 form is at

This question has been posted in at least 3 different places. I have responded in two of the places! No offense but please avoid copy pasting questions in different sub threads. Hope you understand!

vermontcp,
I had read one article in the ac140 case for mumbai, the person didn't have the I824 receipt still his ac140 case got accepted at mumbai accepted . I think it will be ok man even if you dont have receipt for I824 per the case which I read on immigrationportal.com 5 months back. Please search all the threads for ac140, you'll find that case without i824.
