what is "creating case number" for CP interview
Hi,
I have a question about the Mumbai US Consulate getting the packet and "creating" a case number for CP interview
Does the case number have the format BMB2000****** ?
I had applied for GC long back and my labor and I 140 were approved sometime in 1999/2000 timeframe. I had asked for CP in my case during my I140 application. Mumbai Consulate already has a BMB******* case number for me since then and I have sent the Visa PAcket III to them a few weeks back (since I did not need to send any documents to NVC as the Mumbai US Consulate already has case number for me).
Will I be getting a new case number after my Visa packet III reahces Mumbai US Consulate???

Normally case numbers for CP are 13 digits:
1. First 3 digits are alphabets - signify consulate (BMB for Bombay/ NWD for New DElhi, MDR for Chennai/ Madras and so on)
2. Next 4 places are four digit numbers - For the 4 digits of a year the case was created
3. Last 6 numbers are randomnly generated
If you already have a case number then you will not get another one!

I ahve a question. When I dialed NVC ,I found that they have created a case no. for me starting with BMB...However I ahve not received any packet3 docs etc yet.
Sicne I wanted to go for AC 140 route to save soem time,I sent my docs to mumbai consulate. Will my case# be still the same?
Or mumbai is going to geenrate a new case#?

Answer: P3 that one gets from NVC is only after payment of $335. You are atleast 6 weeks from that point! Refer cptracker.com headers for sub steps for regular cp process
