Statement by USCIS Director Emilio T. Gonzalez on Processing of Naturalization Applications

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/us...nnel=68439c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

One way or another, it's good to have some kind of good news. At that rate, most people who applied before the fee increase should expect to be able to vote on the next presidential election, if that was high on their priority list anyway :)

I guess congress pressure and pressure from many other stakeholders have made them work harder. I wish I could believe that it was out of their work ethics as the statement seems to imply, but I don't want to be too cynical when the news are good.

14-16 months, huh? This reminds me of a typical department store sale technique, where a store raises the price, then lowers it to create an illusion of a discount. Don't you just love it how USCIS arbitrarily pulls out random times and dates (14-16 months to naturalize, 1-2 months to receive an IL, etc.) in hopes that we will keep our mouths shut?

Marked improvement!!! ROFL!

ROFL!

14-16 mos - "marked improvement from 16-18 mos"...ROFLMAO!

------------------------------

On March 11, I announced to members of the House Appropriations Committee that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) had lowered its original processing projections for naturalization applications. Individuals who filed for citizenship during the summer of 2007 can now anticipate an average processing time of 14-16 months for these applications. That’s a marked improvement from the 16-18 months projection we announced in January.

During FY 2007, we received approximately 1.4 million naturalization applications. In the months of June and July of 2007 alone, we experienced an increase of nearly 350 percent compared to the same period in 2006. In addressing the significant increase in naturalization cases, and the unprecedented increase in all immigration applications and petitions, the professionalism and hard work of nearly 17,000 dedicated USCIS employees and contractors have been evident.

I am proud of our accomplishments. Still, we remain committed to doing even better. And, we will continue to improve while maintaining our commitment to the integrity of the immigration process and national security requirements.

Let's see how many months USCIS will take to update their website with Emilio's "new and improved" processing timeframe.

I don't think that length projection is accurate at all since all applications are subjected to the useless yet opaque and tedious name check process. They need to have some marked improvement or changes in that particular area in order to improve the overall proficiency of the naturalization process.

Some ppl who applied in Jan 08 have gotten their ILs this month and many who applied after July 07 have also received their ILs or attended their ILs. Therefore, name check/background check is the key here...

Hopefully the next President will have a better decision in this issue =)

What makes me laugh--(not a happy laugh, because the joke is on us)--is that Emilio is cramming this last press release in just as he resigns. Now as he goes on the job market he can tout the "fact" that during his tenure as USCIS director, he reduced average naturalization processing times by two months--even though he pulls these numbers out of his rear.:(

He did not say anything about name check and background which is the problem for people who has to wait for long time... of course we can wait for 14 months if we know it will be done... but we dont know when will it be done.

namecheck victims..stop getting optimistic

Hi Guys,

I think the N400 straightforward cases will go through faster i.e 6 to 8 months. They will not say anything about namecheck cases because they have no control over it. My wife's citizenship completed within 8 months while I am stuck in namecheck.

Those who are victims of namecheck like me..should not get our hopes up because no amount of effort is going to get us through namecheck.(other than WOM after 18 months). We need to remember whatever time they mention is for WITHOUT NAME CHECK.

regards
