More Staff?

I have read some uscis announcements stating that they are "hiring more adjudication officers to resolve the backlog problem..."

I've just filed my application... looks like its going to be a long wait!

Any comments?
 
Yes they have and are hiring extra staff to handle the backlog of cases from last summer's rush. Ironically, recent applications are being processed in record time so you may not experience the delays that many of the backlog applicants are facing.

How long was the initial process prior to this backlog mess that started last summer?

Any insight?

5-9 months depending on DO. A friend of mine filed in October 06 in Chicago and got his Citizenship by March 07.
