Hi, I am currently on H1B. I know if I am sponsoring my MIL, I have to get the following ready.
1. I-134
2. Employment Letter
3. Bank Letter
4. Letter to consulate
5. Invitation Letter
6. Recent pay stubs
7. Income tax returns and W2s.
8. Original Birth certificate
9. Passport copies, Marriage certificate and bank statements.

How does this list change if my MIL is sponsoring herself?

Thank you Praetorian XI..

My wife is on H4 and she does not have a bank account of her own except a credit card. In this case, what documents can I provide? Also, let me know, as only MIL is coming, how much earnings/bank balance should she have in order to prove her ties in India?

Hi PraetorianXI, I just realized you referred to my MIl when you said "her". She is a homemaker. Should she have the bank account in her name or FIL is sufficient?

Thanks..

My MIL has property worth of 35 Lakhs, FDs worth 3 Lakhs and cash savings worth 3 Lakhs. My FIL is still working for a private concern after retirement, he is not going to accompany MIL to the US, my MIL has one daughter in US (my wife) and 2 daughters (one not married, doing her graduation ) in India and a son who is in his 10th grade in India.

Do you think this is enough for my MIL to sponsor herself and show her strong ties back to India?

In my personal opinion and experience it is always better (and has a slightly better success rate) if the B-2 applicant qualifies on his/her own without an I-134.

Do you think this is enough for my MIL to sponsor herself and show her strong ties back to India?

Thanks TripleCitizen..

Do you think the property & cash value I mentioned is sufficient to Sponsor herself and overcome 214(b)?

I am just trying to get an idea. I know what happens on the D day only matters, but would of not proceeding if the amount is too little.

I will rephrase the question, does anyone have any idea of what the minimum amount should be to sponsor oneself?

Also, let me know if there can be a joint sponsorship, like from US and self.

For my wedding, back in 2003, 13 relatives of mine got visit visas from the US Embassy in Islamabad without showing any bank/property documents. I did not send any of them an I-134 either. The only thing I sent was a wedding card and a copy of my K-1 visa.

I will rephrase the question, does anyone have any idea of what the minimum amount should be to sponsor oneself?
