Mistake made by determining 2yr-rule

I have applied for a J1-visa, sponsored by an agency. The two year rule applies to me, according to both the sponsoring agency and information provided to me by the consul. Now, one of the vice-consuls has made a mistake: I have in my passport that the two year rule DOES NOT apply; this is also written in the paper stapled in my passport. Am I lucky now, or is this not an escape from the two year rule? Should I correct this, or should I just accept that humans make mistakes? Can I get in trouble when trying to enter the US?

Even though on your passport the stamp does not say 2 year rule applies, you may still be subject to the two year rule. You could get an advisory opinion from the State Government which may take 3-4 months to find out whether the 2 year rule applies or not. From other aspects (skills list, government agency funding etc.) you may know whether the 2 year rule should apply or not.
