My parents had extended their stay in 2001 (after 9/11) after getting an approval for extension of stay. They visited again in 2004 but left within 5 months. During this 10-year period we lost all documentation on their extension of stay from 2001. Their B1/B2 visa expired last year. They went for an interview at Hyd consulate recently but were sent back to get the missing extension of stay approval document.
I called USCIS office and they told me to apply for a duplicate but I realized I do not have any info (form #, receipt #, Date of filing etc) about the original petition for their extension. Any recommendations on how to obtain the duplicate? Does a notarized letter to consulate stating our situation help?
