Medical/Physical Examination RFE

its better to get the TB Skin test along with the X-Ray when going for the medical test.

we got an RFE for doing the TB-Skin test even though X-ray is supposed to be a confirmatory test.

Since its been six months since medicals, i am planning to get all tests done again (which the doctor thinks should be repeated since its been six months). and I think we will have to resend the form 693 again.

is this the right approach?? to re-do all tests again?? instead of just doing the TB Skin test as per the RFE

RFE does say that we have to send form 693 (so i think its implied that we need to fill all sections, we can choose to fill with old data......or we can re-do test and use new data)

I just got the same RFE.

According to what I read, once it's positive, it will be always positive.

So what my doctor recommended was to get the old record. So we modified the form to indicate that skin test was taken in the past and it was positive.

I saw another member here re-took the test - both skin test and x-ray.

We'll see how it works.

If the skin test was/is positive you need a negative chest X-ray. If the Chest X-ray is positive then you need to be treated for TB.

Hey techy,

How goes it?

I don't know if I understand you correctly -- you first sent your X-ray to them, which as you said should be enough to confirm you were not developing active TB. AND YET, they said you should have the skin test done too? If so that sounds like absurdity on their part...

In my case, I am BCG-vaccinated (it was mandatory for kids in my home country back then) so I KNEW the TB skin test would be positive anyway. I brought to the civil surgeon some official materials to show the fact of BCG vaccination, and they skipped the TB test part to go straight to the X-Ray. I'm sure the surgeon added this fact to my 693 along with the X-Ray result of no active TB.

As seebeyond said, can you do the same? This should do it, as I didn't have any problem and got this darn thing approved.

Hang in there dude.

TB Test

Hi Guys,

I am a doctor and I would like to clarify some of the issues mentioned here.

1- Once you test positive for PPD (TB test), then usually it should remain so for life, unless you have immune problem or on immunosuppressors (corticosteroids, etc.)

2- If you document to the the civil sugeon that you have a prior positive PPD test, then they should proceed to the X-Ray test and document in the I693 form why they skipped the TB test. In my case, I am a PPD+ but i did not have a document; however, the physician took my word for it and wrote history of PPD+ and then did xray. The problem happens when they forget to write that PPD+ is positive and proceed with X-Ray. That technically should be OK as Techy said but the USCIS folks would stick to the paperwork and some would issue RFE.
3- Once PPD is positive then X-Ray should be done every year.
4- The Civil sugeon would tell you if your X-ray shows active lesion and you should be treated before a clearance may be obtained.

I hope this information is helpful. Thanks.

.

Just to correct this: not every BCG vaccinated person is TB skin test positive and even if you are BCG vaccinated, TB positive with normal X-ray, the physician should advice you to take prophylactic treatment.

I dunno, but my understanding is the same as mas06's. I had a screening test when I entered a graduate school here too (the state's requirement), did the same, and no problem either. But I did have the official document, that's for sure.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get some form of an RFE about this to delay my case further. I have tested positive twice in the past and when I went for my medical, the doctor sent me straight through to the xray, which came back normal. However, the only thing the doctor did was check "Not Done" on the box for the TB test without provie ding an explanation. I wish they would submit standard guidelines to doctors regarding this issue. It seems some officers are okay with it while others follow the rules exactly (which I guess is how it should be done).

My doctor did the same - marking it 'not done'.

Since I have a documented positive skin test from the same doctor, we decided to give it a try by marking it 'positive' and put the date when the skin test was taken.

We'll see how it goes.

Medical RFE

Both me and my spouse have received RFE from Texas on medical for not having TB skin test done. For both of us x-ray was clear though. Our physician by passed skin test and went directly to X-ray and promised me that shouldn't lead to any problem. Probaly that was not a problem until recently. I am from India and for some reason I think I will turn positive... the nearest uscis civil sergent is located 150 miles away from my place......what a mess !!!!!!!!!

Do it in any clinic close to you and send them the results.

Need Help:

I got this RFE

RFE:
Your Original form I-693 is being returned to you at this time. You are required to return to the physician who completed your medical examination to obtain a completed supplemental form to I-693 to establish that you are current for all recommended age-specific immunizations or that you have received a waiver of that requirement in accordance with section 212(g) of the act. After the supplemental form and the I-693 have been completed and signed by your physician, you must return both forms to this service. Please note that both forms must be returned to this service in an Unopened envelope that has been sealed by your Physician.

Do I have to go to the same doctor or I can choose a diff doctor.

My original I-693 form was sent back to me, it has my old address and the tests were done in 04/2004, it is almost three years. The old form is Outdated, there is a new version on the USCIS site.

Do I have to refill a new I-693 form with old information or just send back the OLD form as it is plus the updated supplemental form.

Do we have to Pay again for Dr's Mistake?

For my wife TB test was done which came positive but 3 months before TB test she went for X-Ray for some other reason which was CLEAR so at the time of her Physicxal exam she took this X-ray to the Doctor and Dr suggested that since X-ray is clear so he will check "Not Done" on the box for the TB test, And that is what he did so if there is an RFE for this and we have to do it again Do we need to pay whole amount ($500) to this Doctor again and that is for his mistake.

$500 that doctor is minting...

my doc (google: Dr crow alabama) charged me only $170 first time.....

and i repeated everything again.......excluding the X-Ray.....and he charged me only $100 ...he was willing to do skin test for free....becos it was his mistake...
