Interesting, so I am South African now. Just because I know how to use an online dictionary to read and respond to your comments in another post. Guess again ---- you are in the right group of languages though.

Who said the OP was going to be deported? A civil surgeon does not have that authority, and an applicant is free to visit another civil surgeon if she chooses to. I was hoping you learned something while at Columbia!

Piano,

Actually, I didn't learn anything at Columbia, even though my LSAT was 177, what a sad story am I? Hence I fled Columbia for a small college in IDAHO, called Idaho potato college of law... :D

Well... it appears as if an X-ray yield a positive TB test on the patient, going to another falicity for another X-ray isn't going to bring about different results. Of course, maybe I am not familiar with the X-ray process...after all, Columbia doesn't teach any X-ray course in the law program...

Pianoabuser... you should enjoy life, after all, what would life be like without people like you? :( It will be boring....so, you add a little bit of spice to this colorful globe.... :D

I thought that no X ray was done ---- at least that was what the discussion implied. If the doctor did an X ray, well then of course, I would have to agree with you.

I do enjoy life and I love brightening your day.

Hi:

Be nice. You really hurt my feelings, you know.

Incidentally, having re-read Jasmine's post, I stand by my comment. She states nothing about having received a chest X-ray. I think you confused SBKIM's post with hers ---- if you look carefully, you will see that Sarrebal and I were responding to JASMINE's post.

Sorry that I hurt your feelings, Germans are supposed to be thick skinned, after all there is no milk and chocolate there... :p This is where being a swiss is a luxury.....

If you read carefullly, you responded to the post of SBK. Jasmine's situation should have been resolved by an X-ray: positive or not positive. However, if it was positive, then your logic of a second opinion is akin asking a pregnant woman is she's had her period lately.... It is ridiculous, it will result the same positive exam.... for her skin test....

I am not a fan of antibiotic for anything, drugs can cause more damage to your system than anything man ever invented, apart from a german automobile... :D

Hi:

I have not argued that she needed a second opinion in the form of another skin test. I have argued that she present herself to a different civil surgeon (with her positive skin test result) and ask for an X-ray.

I guess I should have spelled out what I meant by a second opinion ---- I had assumed that it would be obvious that someone would not understand it to mean a second skin test, because a second skin test is usually not accurate if done so closely after another one - a patient can also have a bad skin irritation reaction to it.

If you feel I should have spelled it out, my mistake.

Clarity Is Key

Expressing yourself with clarity will be critical to your ability to be an effective advocate for your clients. It is better to be clear, concise and not postulates on issue with the "HOPE" that people will know were you stand. If you plan to practice criminal law, your client could be convicted by the jury based on your need to get the jury to assume your position.
ASSUME..... U make an ASS U AND ME

With this out of the way, mentioning a second opinion is laden with many possibilities. :p It could mean, a new surgeon: (a) second skin test, wait couple of days and go back to the surgeon and get the inevitable again, positive.
(b) A new x-ray with the high probability that it will show positive. Since I am not a mind-reader and never will, I am not in a position to know which of these you are suggesting...

Thank you for being so concerned about my future career. However, I suggest you address yourself first to graduating from you Idaho potato school (your words, not mine) and building your own career.

While I do try to be clear at all times, I may be a little more informal in my responses on a NG, as opposed to writing a legal memo, brief etc. Incidentally, your writing on this NG is far from accurate and clear, and I do believe that your writing style is probably different when drafting legal documents.

You keep on talking about a "new X-ray". This is not possible for Jasmine, since an X-ray was never done. Therefore, having cleared up your "confusion" about me recommending another skin test, I am suggesting that she should have had AN X-RAY, not a NEW ONE. I guess she could have tried to get it from the same doctor, but since he seems to have been opposed to it, I think she would logically have consulted another physician.
You are keeping up with this right?

Pianohugger,

Being informal doesn't take away one's ability to be be clear.... Sorry, you can't cover this one up..... I know you would like to be excused, but I can't excuse you on this one....

If you can point out where I posted something which was not clear, will be more than happy to acquiesce to your blatant attempt to bring me into your basket of poor communicators... :D As far as I am concerned, each posted I have put up, your peanut mind has been able to grasp the logic and substance. In addition, you have responded without asking for any clarification...which is a testament of my writing and communication skills.

In anyway, I am not going to blame you inept writing, sorry for pointing it out in the first place. This forum is full of people whom English is not their first language, and I am willing to make exception to all of those. However, most of these people are not in legal career. Unfortunately, you in law program, and all law schools require excellent writing and communication skills... :o All Law School brochures emphasized this point a lot... Also, you are required to take legal writing for the duration of your 1st yr, some program require it till your 3 rd.... I hope you in such a program, because it is going to benefit you in the long future.... :p

It is a festivas miracle, we agree on something: she should consulted another physician if the 1st one didn't want to do the chest X-ray. In that way, a second dr conduct an x-ray to see if it was a false positive... :D Finally, our two countries can unite and drink beer to our amazing breakthrough... of course, german beer...after all.... you guys make 99% of the world's beer.... beer for breakfast, lunch and dinner.... :D

I do not ask for you to excuse me. I also do not know why you care about my education so much. You don't even know me. But thank you for your concern. Ultimately, other people here decide what is clear to them ---- it is not for me or you to judge.

Enjoy the beer!

Piano,

Unless you plan to practice in some 3 person immigration office, then you writing is of no consequence. However, large law firms requires excellent writing and communication skills.

I am not concerned about you personally, but the field of law in general with people like you swimming in it with crap. I am sick and tired of crappy work done by attorney who can't even write a simple letter... :D So, you do take care and enjoy your new year.... :p I don't drink beer.... :D I'd love to attend and read your filings in your first case..... :D It is going to be hideous.... I hope the judge doesn't reprimand you for being a doosh on your first case... :D

Once again, thank you for your concern. I have been a summer associate for the San Diego office of a large international law firm, with offices all over the world. While there, I did plenty of legal writing. Since I am invited back for this coming summer, I could not have done too bad a job. But again, thank you for thinking of me.

I think he was talking about my case. Sorry my post might have confused the topic.

Anyway, in my situation, I was tested at my first university on skin test. They immediately sent me to the clicnic founded by government because I had no insurance or extra money. So they didn't bother x-raying me (maybe due to the cost on their side, or maybe because they could careless...) and put me on the heavy antibiotic. It was no fun but if I didn't do it, they'd have kicked me out of school or the country (not sure).

Question: I took chest xrays several times this year for my spinal condition. If I was indeed postive, would it have shown? The doctors were only focusing on the spine but if there was some dark area in the chest, would they have noticed? Until this thread, I didn't think about the TB test which I did over 10 years ago...
Sorry it happened to you :(

I always have a positive skin test, so when I had my medical, I requested an X-ray right away and waived the skin test. And my X-ray was fine, as always. I have had a positive skin test all my life, every year, and I always ended up having an X-ray. Positive skin test doesn't mean anything.

Jewel,

Thanks for the reply. Did you also have BCG vaccine when you were a kid? When you had your exams done, did the insurance cover the cost? If not, do you remember how much you ended up paying for it?

Good luck on the interview that is coming up!

Hi:

First, my apologies for hijacking this thread with this silly discussion above. I need to learn to just withdraw myself.

I have heard that it is pretty standard for nationals of certain countries that received the vaccine during childhood to get a positive skin test. Some of my British and Japanese friends tell me they test positive all the time. The chest X-ray is the best way to go for a quick confirmation.

Check with your insurance company. It is expensive, but not outrageously so.
Best wishes.

Hi Jasmine,

Yes, I did have that BCG shot, but I think pretty much everybody in my country had it, yet not everybody had a positive skin test. We used to get tested at school every year, and I was the only kid with a positive reaction in my class. What a luck :)

When I had my medical here in the U.S., my insurance didn't cover anything, because I didn't have any insurance :) I paid $33 for the X-ray, which, I think, was very affordable. I have heard that insurance may cover the cost of the X-Ray. It won't cover the medical itself, only the X-Ray.

Thanks for wishing me well at the interview! :)
