Who said the OP was going to be deported? A civil surgeon does not have that authority, and an applicant is free to visit another civil surgeon if she chooses to. I was hoping you learned something while at Columbia!

I thought that no X ray was done ---- at least that was what the discussion implied. If the doctor did an X ray, well then of course, I would have to agree with you.

Some advise for your legal career, join the state attorney's office when you graduate so that you can do the small work, learn some hard lessons, try a few cases before heading to big corporations.... If you read carefullly, you responded to the post of SBK. Jasmine's situation should have been resolved by an X-ray: positive or not positive. However, if it was positive, then your logic of a second opinion is akin asking a pregnant woman is she's had her period lately.... It is ridiculous, it will result the same positive exam.... for her skin test....

I am not a fan of antibiotic for anything, drugs can cause more damage to your system than anything man ever invented, apart from a german automobile...

I guess I should have spelled out what I meant by a second opinion ---- I had assumed that it would be obvious that someone would not understand it to mean a second skin test, because a second skin test is usually not accurate if done so closely after another one - a patient can also have a bad skin irritation reaction to it.

As far as I am concerned, each posted I have put up, your peanut mind has been able to grasp the logic and substance. In addition, you have responded without asking for any clarification...which is a testament of my writing and communication skills.

In anyway, I am not going to blame you inept writing, sorry for pointing it out in the first place. This forum is full of people whom English is not their first language, and I am willing to make exception to all of those. However, most of these people are not in legal career. Unfortunately, you in law program, and all law schools require excellent writing and communication skills... All Law School brochures emphasized this point a lot... Also, you are required to take legal writing for the duration of your 1st yr, some program require it till your 3 rd.... I hope you in such a program, because it is going to benefit you in the long future....

Once again, thank you for your concern. I have been a summer associate for the San Diego office of a large international law firm, with offices all over the world. While there, I did plenty of legal writing. Since I am invited back for this coming summer, I could not have done too bad a job. But again, thank you for thinking of me.

I think he was talking about my case. Sorry my post might have confused the topic.

Anyway, in my situation, I was tested at my first university on skin test. They immediately sent me to the clicnic founded by government because I had no insurance or extra money. So they didn't bother x-raying me (maybe due to the cost on their side, or maybe because they could careless...) and put me on the heavy antibiotic. It was no fun but if I didn't do it, they'd have kicked me out of school or the country (not sure).

Question: I took chest xrays several times this year for my spinal condition. If I was indeed postive, would it have shown? The doctors were only focusing on the spine but if there was some dark area in the chest, would they have noticed? Until this thread, I didn't think about the TB test which I did over 10 years ago...

I always have a positive skin test, so when I had my medical, I requested an X-ray right away and waived the skin test. And my X-ray was fine, as always. I have had a positive skin test all my life, every year, and I always ended up having an X-ray. Positive skin test doesn't mean anything.

Thanks for the reply. Did you also have BCG vaccine when you were a kid? When you had your exams done, did the insurance cover the cost? If not, do you remember how much you ended up paying for it?

First, my apologies for hijacking this thread with this silly discussion above. I need to learn to just withdraw myself.

I have heard that it is pretty standard for nationals of certain countries that received the vaccine during childhood to get a positive skin test. Some of my British and Japanese friends tell me they test positive all the time. The chest X-ray is the best way to go for a quick confirmation.

Check with your insurance company. It is expensive, but not outrageously so.

Yes, I did have that BCG shot, but I think pretty much everybody in my country had it, yet not everybody had a positive skin test. We used to get tested at school every year, and I was the only kid with a positive reaction in my class. What a luck

When I had my medical here in the U.S., my insurance didn't cover anything, because I didn't have any insurance I paid $33 for the X-ray, which, I think, was very affordable. I have heard that insurance may cover the cost of the X-Ray. It won't cover the medical itself, only the X-Ray.
