Marrying a 16 years old.......

I came to US for a visit abt 2 months back. Have met this family friend who is very cool and we both like each other. She is 16 and I am 8 yrs older than her. I checked the marriage laws in texas state which say that between 16 and 18 can get married with parental consent.

Just wondering if we get married will she be able to sponsor me and file for my status change or will we have to wait till she turns 18 ????

As far as income is concerned, from my readings of the posts on this forum, her parents can also file a financial support document, and they're willing to do it also.

Any other opinion/advice is more than welcome. Thanks everyone.

ps: She can not sponsor a spouse until she turns 18. You can not stay here waiting for that to happen.
 
I have seen a similar case personally. It is completely legal if girl is over 16 years and her parents or gurdian is present at the time of wedding. Interview will be little hard depending on the officer. But you will be needing alot of family photographs along with bills(which is only possible with S.S). Your wife will not be able to sign a lease because she is not 18. If i was at your place i will take legal advice from an attorney about all the proofs you will need to prove your wedding..

Pedophilia is when you indulge in sexual activity with a person who hasnt reached puberty.. and dont tell me american 16 year old's dont go out ..drink and have sex

Maybe his culture allows him to get in to such a marriage..

yes US teens engage drinking and having sex but they do not get married.At 16 they're busy with highschool, their friends, getting their drivers license and so on. Immigration will give this dude a hard time no doubt :rolleyes:
 
I assume you are Pakistani? As long as this is not a case of her family importing a husband for her from "back home" to safe guard her from marrying a local, you should be ok. She will legally not be a adult for the next 2 years and that may result if various issues, immigration and non-immigration. Just ask Jerry Lee Lewis for clarification.
Personally I would advise you to wait until she is legally an adult. What you don't want is a law suit 2 years down the road when she accuses her parents of forcing her to marry you. Also run this by an attorney who is competent in family law.

they do. They also go to jail for it - just recently there was a case in GA whereas a 17-year old guy got 10 years in jail for having consensual oral sex with a 15-year old girl.

It took him a couple of years and a law change to get out of jail, because now it's not considered a crime that warrants 10 years in jail, but just a year in jail.
 
Isn't this fraud? you entered as a visitor and after 2 months intend to adjust your status.

The law it self gives you the right to adjust at any time, but if you enetered US with a B1 with the intent to immigrate that is a fraud.
