I am curious about this.. if a person has a conditional GC and is married to a millitary spouse.. does that in any way affect the way their case is treated? Anyone with knowledge please contribute.

No it makes no difference.
However if the US spouse is being posted overseas for a year or more and the GC spouse is accompanying, then the GC spouse can file for immediate citizenship.

Thank you sir.. i appreciate that.. but how do you know for sure? I've heard stories that it can speed things up??? Any documentation somewhere?

There was a whole article on CNN about the military and immigration a few months back, and there is no special treatment. If anything there are more complaints from the military spouses on how slow the process is.

Hi myredskins,

I am military spouse too. I don't have a GC yet. We had sent our paperwork on February 20th, 2008. And I can tell you it doesn't make any difference. I also have a military spouse friend who is going through gc process too and she was trying to speed up her process because her husband was leaving on deployment and she didn't have any sucess with it either. So nope, being a military spouse doesn't make any difference. Good luck!!!

If your friend's spouse is leaving overseas for a year or more, she can apply for citizenship without waiting period, she must be a permanent resident first though.

There is no special treatment if your spouse is on national guard, reserves or normal military duties in NO active duty overseas, means that there should be "orders" submitted for you to apply for citizenship. Because you will need a copy of those orders to demostrate that in fact he is on duty and out of the US. The only thing is that your spouse's unit should has a JAG office and they help to clarify issues with immigration, the rest is all by yourself.

Alright alright good people.. I just wanted to know what was up... no one is in the millitary right now.. in my family YET.. just throwing out the question out there though :)

Happy friday folks....:D

I guess I will throw in this question. What if the permanent resident (conditional or not), joins the army him/herself, and is on active duty and sent overseas for more than 1 year. Can he/she apply for citizenship without a waiting period?

ok. regardless of ur status. if u are in the military now.u are 100% eligible for citizenship.due to the ongoing war, and during peace time you have to be in the service for a year to be elibigle.if u interested you more than welcome cuz we need gyz out there to kick some ass
