Marriage Interview Question

Me and my wife had an interview with an immigration officer in December 2008. We were interviewed separately and after the interview immigration officer told us that we would get a response within 30 days or we can inquiry in 60 days. Soon it will be a year and we still had no response from them.

Based on the interview, it went really well, immigration officer asked us separately about how we met, about our apartment, cars, pets, favorite food, restaurants, our parents etc.

Our lawyer recommended us to setup an info pass and we did 3 months ago. All they said is they are doing background check or something. They said they have no idea how long it would take.


Is it normal to take so long? We have been married for about 3 years now. I just hope they did not lose our paperwork, apparently I've heard it happens sometimes.
 
Some background checks do take a year. Since it has been 3 months since your last infopass, I would advise setting up another one.

Your Congressman's office will follow up on your case. While it might take a couple of months, they will definitely follow up. I don't have any experience with the Ombudsman, but that office is set up to take care of issues like yours. Give both a shot at the earliest, providing them as much information as possible regarding your case. In the mean time take an infopass to re-inquire about your case.
 
I had an infopass today, the agent told me that "the case is still under review". When I asked is it normal to take this long, agent said "some cases take longer than others. Your case is under extended review." She also added, "if you don't hear in 6 months you should schedule another infopass but I think you would hear from them very soon."
