I mailed out the I-131 application for re-entry permit on 10/16/2008 and want to STOP it from processing.

1. Is it possible to do so? How to do it?

2. Will this have any bad effects? My plan change - I will have to leave next week and will stay 11 months. Will I have problem re-entry US after leaving 11 months?

3. Anyway to get the money back? The check is not cashed yet. Could I stop the electronic funds transfer?

Someone please help me! I cannot find answer anywhere and getting nervous now.

-------------------------USCIS is going to send the receipt and biometric notice if you don’t go for biometrics they are not going to process your reentry permit .

Thank you ginnu.

Should I put a stop payment for the check for I-131? So USCIS do not even need to send the receipt and biometri notice. Also, Money-wise I can save $300. But is this a good practice?

Do you have an answer for the question 2 - Will I have problem re-enter US after leaving 11 months?

11 month is pushing the envelope. Its not unlikely that they will ask you to prove that you didn't abandon your residence in the US. As long you can prove that you should be fine.

Thank you nscagony.

Does anyone know if there is a way to cancel the re-entry permit application?

The application was mailed on 10/16 by regular mail.

Any place I can contact to cancel the application?

Stop the payment. If the payment does not go through they will return it to you.

There should be no ramifications down the line.

Stop payment won't necessarily work. They have the right to demand payment anyway, and sometimes they exercise that right. You can get in trouble with the law for writing a bad check.

Tough call indeed. Might be nearly impossible to withdraw it. Worst case there is nothing to lose, just the 385 check you sent.

Why don't you call the 800- number and ask them.

Everyone, thank you for all the advices.

I called the 800 number and learned that I can cancel the application once they cashed the money. And the money is NOT refundable.
