LPR working in Toronto on extendable temporary assignment

Hello-

I am a U.S. GC holder & am getting a 1-2 year contract in Canada through the U.S. consulting company that I work for currently.

I gather that I should apply for a Re-Entry Permit (since the length of the contract is >1 yr) & also Canadian Temporary Work Permit so that I can work legally in Canada but have few more questions on moving to Canada for this temporary contract:

1. Should I take a Canadian Temporary Resident Visa so that I can make day-to-day life easy (things like health insurance, car insurance, driver's license)? Or is my GC equivalent to the Canadian temporary resident visa & hence I dont need to apply for one?

2. Can I move my household items, furniturefor the duration without raising questions at the border?

3. Can I take my car alongwith me for personal use for the duration? Would I have to register the car there since it is for a long duration? What about insurance and driver's license?

4. Will my U.S. credit history count in Canada for the purpose of apt renting application process?

5. Any recent experiences on how long a Canadian Temporary Work Permit takes to be approved?

6. Would I have to apply for a SIN in Canada just like any other temporary resident or will my SSN work in Canada?

7. Any recommended immigration lawyer in Toronto GTA area?

8. Any recommended tax lawyer who can provide advice in cross-country (U.S./Canada) tax matters? I will be getting my paycheck in U.S. dollars deposited in U.S. account. Would I have to file for Canadian taxes as well?

GC only allows you to visit Canada, not to work.

I think you should fill the form N 470, so you wont loose the time spent in canada.

Your GC allows you to visit Canada, nothing more.

Unless you have a Canadian work visa, you and your possessions will be turned around and sent home.

Most likely you will need to import the car, register it and get Canadian insurance.

Unlikely.

When did Canada become part of the United States?

I will be getting my paycheck in U.S. dollars deposited in U.S. account. Would I have to file for Canadian taxes as well?

US GC is just a visa (immigrant visa) to stay and work in US not else where. GC holders have very few privileges outside US being GC holders e.g. visiting Canada, Mexico and some scattered islands which many others can do without GC or even being in US at all. It is un-logic to think that the USCIS issue you or me a document to work or stay for extended time in other country. Even if you are USC, you can not work in most, if not all, other countries being USC unless you follow the rules of that country for foreigners.

Since's you're US GC holder,i guess you can't take Canadian Temporary Resident Visa.Even though you are work legally.You have to apply driver license or you have transfer that license.Rules and regulations are strictly follows by Canadian government.
