long absence during N400

Just one question.
Example :you complete your five years by dec.2009 say.
You have sent application in oct2009.
Here you should have mentioned all the trips from Oct2004 onwards or even prior for months in 2004?
Does 'past' 5 years mean--5 years trips from the applilcation date backwards or entire year of 2004 trips, for example?
Any opinions from CIS view?

You would mention all trips since becoming LPR, so if you received GC in Dec 2004 you would mention all trips since then.

Part 7 of the N-400 has multiple questions - a couple that asks about trips in the last 5 years, and another where they ask you to list individual trips since becoming a permanent resident.

For the part where they ask about the past 5 years, just count back exactly 5 years from the filing date (don't include the entire calendar year 2004). So if you are filing on December 22, 2009, look back to December 22, 2004. However, if you have been a permanent resident for less than 5 years, you would only look back to when you became a permanent resident. And if you are applying on the 3-year marriage rule, look back 3 years instead of 5 when answering the questions that ask about the last 5 years.
