Does anyone know if there is an address I can write to to ask for a letter stating that I am waiting for a new GC in my married name that I could take with me to the DMV to prove my residency. I have tried the customer service phone number but can never get through to an actual person!!

Are you applying Driving license first time?
Can’t you show your passport and social security card?
If you filed I-90 to change name on GC then you might have receipt of I-90 filing from USCIS
Take info pass and visit local USCIS office and get your passport stamped (USCIS local office will need proof that you filed I-90 take the I-90 filing receipt with you)

Well no this is not my 1st driver's licence. But the licence they gave me a year ago runs out the end of June at which time they will renew it as long as I can prove I am still legal and the only way I can do this is by showing them my GC it seems. (SS card won't do unfortunately)

I'm just not sure when my new GC will arrive therefore I'm wondering if I should go into the Newark ASC and ask them for a letter. My question now is, can you just walk into the ASC and ask for this?

------- did you go to DMV and asked what they will need to renew the DL??
(SS card won't do unfortunately)
----- if you have SSN card without Restrictions then it should be accepted.
------------ if you have valid stamp GC in your passport they will give you DL

---------- you may try and post the info for others

I received a Temp evidence (I94) with stamp on it

Not sure about your office, but here is my story..

my GC was approved recently and my local office faxed my attorney that thay have approved our cases and sent a written notice. However, since we did not receive the notice for about 2 weeks, we went to our local offices to get some kind of written evidence. The IIO at the office asked for passport
size photo, glued it on I-94 card, filled in all the details and stamped it,that mentions this is temporary evidence of lawful permanant residence.

She mentioned nowadays, they avoid giving these temp cards, unless the applicant has some need like travel abroad, etc etc
