I heard a story that one guy get arrested at the airport during the flight from one state to another. I don't know if it's true or not but in some states, like Maine, police or any other state official doesn't have a right to check your immigration status. It's a law!

Its not in the law but many police officers have taken the liberty to check the status after 9/11. Their computers were hooked up with USCIS database when many of the culprits of 9/11 were found ticketed etc...

So they can check...if you have nothing to hide, why be scared?

I don't know how far that is true but DHS is applying all the methods available. I for example got arrested by DHS because they came looking for my younger brother. They knocked on my door at 5.30 in the morning. DHS got information of my brother from college he had attended.

I also read an article in an Indian newspaper a few months ago. This man had a deportation order which he did not obey and stayed in the country. I think he was in VA. He was driving with his wife and stopped at a routine police check and while the police were checking his record it showed a deportation order and he was arrested.

My personal experience, I was out of status and was involved in a car accident and when the police were checking my record nothing came up about my immigration status and this happened in 2003 in New York.

In New York, DHS is very active. So many illegal immigrants are getting arrested.
