Last name/middle name issue

I guess this was an issue all along during my 15 years in the US. It was never a problem. But now that I'm about to leave the US for the very first time in almost 15 years I'm getting paranoid.

I have two last names (or a last name with two words). Ever since I came to the state, I started to use the first part of my last name as a middle name and just the last one as a last name. My new green card show that. My original country passport that I will be using show both names as last name. Would something like that be any issue on the way back?? To ad to it, my last name (the second word) is some times spelled with a hyphen, some times with a space, some times with neither. so, on the passport there is a space but on the green card there is none.

No different letters or anything.... so I'm hoping there should be no issues. I like to hear from people with first hand experience with that.

-------------------------to book a ticket your name will be as on passport and at US POE they will have look at Card and swipe the card. no problems to enter US

I know a Lady
Her full name is Nishi Rajiv Kumar Sharma That is her name on and on his Indian passport that she got after marriage to Rajiv Kumar Sharma.
She uses her name as: First name NISHI: Last Name: Sharma: Middle Name:Rajiv Kumar (same was on her I-485)
She got her Green Card with her name as:
Kumar Sharma,Nishi R
She has gone to India 4 times and came to US 4 times and did not face any problem.
* USCIS did mistake on her Card it should be: Sharma,Nishi R Kumar on the card. she can correct it any time as her last name on I-485 was Sharma but USCIS made Kumar Sharma,Nishi R
at the time of filing Citizenship she can correct that as the I-485 file will be before the officer and they can correct the info in USCIS computer system.

*** I dont know what is the info on your passport. you can write giving example in names on passport and what was on I-485 form and what is on GC
*** to enter US I dont think you will face any problems. Passport has your Photo and DOB and GC has your Photo and DOB
 
Make sure to book the ticket with the name as mentioned in your passport. When returning to the US, at the POE the Officer would just swipe the card and try to match your name with the passenger manifest (sometimes). You can mention your actual name at that time and you shouldn't have any problems.

During 2007, my name was swapped (first name became last name and vice versa) and I didn't have problems travelling back to the US. At the POE, the Officer swiped the card but couldn't match my name on the GC with the manifest and asked me how my name should be used. I told her the name swap issue and she was OK with it.

Maybe I'm being paranoid but this is something else I'm worried about. the stupid travel agent missed on vowel from my last name. When I complained he said that this is a common mistak and they don't change the ticket for it. I called the airline directly and they said similar thing that if the mistak is less than 3 letter, especially vowels, it is ok.

being from one of the countries that are not really liked by th US and the fact that I have never left the US since I came here almost 15 years ago make me nervous and stressed out.

I can't help but being stressed about this. So any reassuring answers will be appreciated.

What's the worse case scenario?? can be sent back or is it merely a little extra scrutiny?? (which will be ok).

I dont see any problems. you have GC ,you have passport, you have DL, you have SSN card, you have Credit cards. your passport with name and DOB,DL with name and DOB,GC have your photo and GC has your index fingerprint on it.relax!!!!!!!!!
