L1A to TN re-entry to give notice

I recently moved to the US on an L1A with company A. I am currently in the final stage of interviewing with company B who is willing to sign a TN support letter. I am really hoping to give company A a 3-4 week notice for transition. Two questions relating to this scenario:

1. Will my L1A be cancelled/voided immediately after my TN is approved?

2. Can I apply for my TN at a land border, re-enter into Canada, flagpole / fly out with my L1A to work another month of notice period with my current employer? I will then fly back to Canada and enter the US on approved TN before starting.

I have heard that #2 works in theory, but can anyone confirm?

All of this is assuming company B is fine with signing the support letter with an earlier start date.

TIA!!!

1. It will not be "voided", but you can only have one status at a time, so you cannot use the L1A once you enter on TN.
2. Yes. However it is possible that the officer will ask if you are "on your way to work" on your new TN, and, if honest, he may say come back when you are ready to start work. The start date (as long is it is past or in the near future) doesn't matter when you are at the border.

There really isn;t a smooth way of changing work statuses (Tn to TN is fine). Personally, I would wait and go get TN once you quit your L1A job (making sure that you TN petition is iron-clad.

Remember, you are never required to give notice. In this case, where you could end up working illegally, I would forego the courtesy.

Thank you @nelsona. I have a great relationship with my current employer that I’m hoping to not burn, but I understand your point. The ultimate goal is to have the approved TN in hand before starting the new job. This means that I’ll exit as L1A on my last day of work with current company and re-enter on TN (that I already have for a couple of weeks) once I start the new job. I was approved L1A and entered the US one month before my internal transition was actually complete. So in the one month’s time, I was still working for my Canadian employer. Maybe this is just another form of that, as long as I can enter as L1A after getting the TN still…

As long as you only perform L1A work when you enter on L1A, and TN work when you enter on TN, you are fine. Just be careful that the border officer doesn't kill your L1A.
