L1 to Marriage 1485 - Can anyone advise?

Hi All,

Been reading these posts for a while, seems no one has posted a situation like mine, and I really need advise please! I came here on an L1 Management transfer visa (Florida) filed I485 in 2002, case sent to Miami in 2005, nothing since. Problem is this. I moved to Minnesota to spend time with fiance and step children at xmas 2006, took extended leave from Company, filed EAD renewal in Feb 07, but never actually worked on it, as I went back to Florida only to quit job and move back to Minnesota to marry my now-husband. But, wouldn't you know my interview date came through meanwhile and whilst I cancelled it and recently had my husband file my I130, I am very worried that they will think I got married to avoid the interview as only 1 month apart (I certainly didn't, this is for real), and also as will they still want to see previous proof of employment because of my status as an L1 when I entered US, or interview us solely on marriage validity? I really don't know how I stand here, I hope someone can help me.
Thanks to all
:(

I don't think this should be an issue, if you can provide evidence that the marriage is bona fide.

Since you're adjusting based on marriage to a US citizen, you shouldn't have any employment-related questions. If you do have evidence of your previous job, all the better.

L1 to I485 Marriage

Thankyou real Canadian for your kind reply.
The problem is that is that I haven't worked for sponsor company in a while, and have been working in an unrelated job to keep a roof over my head.
And as my marriage and interview timing is so bad, I am anxious that they will want proof of my previous employment in addition to marriage proof (of which I have plenty) to ascertain that I entered/lived here under the L1 visa and that my marriage wasn't fraud. Certainly my last w2's show a different employer, and I am scared of losing my husband as he can't leave the country to be with me as his children are so young. I am praying that they just ask marriage based questions at interview, but I don't know what will happen.

So long as you worked for your L-1 employer for some period of time after your entry to the United States, then I don't see there being any cause for concern, especially if you left the job to be close to your fiance/husband.

They cannot deny the adjustment because you quit your L-1 job.

L1 to I485 Marriage

But what about all the EAD renewals each year. I have kept the original details of my sponsoring company on them and haven't filed a change of employer due to the total difference in job description. Won't they view that as fraud, or certainly lying - This is, I believe where I may fall down badly.
I have an interview date in Florida and bam!, now I am living in a different state and recently married!!! Thats why all the questions regarding proof of L1 status prior to marriage, I just fear that they will throw up the good old red flag on me and will want proof ie; W2's and the like, plus all the marriage related questions. Just the fact that my EAD renewals refer to original sponsor, doesn't that make me guilty of fraud and thus deportation??

What were you lying about? With a pending I-485 you are eligible for an EAD for any reason you want.

Your EADs were tied to your own pending I-485, not your sponsor. You intended to work for that sponsor, and then later you changed your mind. That's perfectly legal. You really are freaking out for no reason.

Enjoy your marriage.

Real Canadian - You are right!! And thanks again for replying.
I just rerad the form and it doesn't ask for Company details when renewing.
But to answer your question on "What did I lie about"
I just lied on the G325a (biographical) that accompanies the I130 my husband filed, where I had to list my employment for last 5 years, and yes, stupid me, I listed the sponsor as my employer right up to recently when I moved to be with my new family. What a hole I have dug for myself!!
Oh the tangled webs.... we all know the rest
Cest la vie and shame on me!!!
