Hello,
I came to US from India on L1-A Visa from Company A few weeks ago. Now a better company (Company B) is ready to offer me a job. Could some one please let me know if I can convert from L1-A (from Company A) to H1B (from Company B). If yes do I need to go back to India for H1 Stamping? Also let me know of risks if any on this conversion.

H1 quota was gone for this year. You can file H1 petition after April 1, but you can start working only after Oct 1.

L1B to H1.

I am travelling to US some time in June/July/August for 6 months. Is it going to be a problem If I start talking to a consultant to process my H1B now? The reason being the April 1 date.

What happens if my H1B gets approved b4 I complete the 6 months from the Company A. Do I need to quit the job and then join Company B?

How does the H1B process work? Can you please share some infor or a link to this kind of information?

Thanks,
Vij.

if you have valid status(if you are on L1, you are employed by L1 company), you can file change of status to H1. If your change of status was approved, you can work for L1 company til H1 start date. you must join H1 company after H1 start date.

Thanks for the response...

How does the process work... I contact a Company and when will they apply for H1B... is it in April. After that how many days it takes for approval and will I have option to select the H1 start date?

You need to file I539 to change the status to H1 in the US.
H1 start date must be within 6 months after H1 filing. if you file H1 later, you can have later start date.
