My fiance just got her K-1 approved and just about to head to America.

Does she have to live under the same roof as me, or is she allowed to stay at a family's place for a bit?

and if there is any laws that state that can you show me where I can read up on that?

I kinda want to make sure she cannot pull a fast one just to be on the super safe side.

Well..first off, congrats on getting the financee visa...can you post your timeline and the docs you had sent along with the service center location..

you'll have to marry your fiancee within 90day of his/her arrival otherwise your fiancee would have to return back.

There is no law that says that you have to live under the same roof when your fiance arrives. The only requirement is that you marry within 90 days. Many because of religious and/or moral beliefs do not reside together until marriage. This is no different.

If you do not marry, your fiance cannot adjust status to that of a permanent resident, nor legally remain in the US.

Have a read of Title 8--Aliens and Nationality
Other immigration process links.

I have to say, I do find it a worry for both of you that you do not completely trust your fiance.

hey kallador, I'm about to apply for a k-1 visa for my fiance from China. I was wondering if you could tell me everything that you had to send in to apply for that and about how long it took. I've been researching it but everywhere I go, it tells me something different. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Check out www.candleforlove.com . We have timelines, FAQs, specific for those with chinese fiances or spouses seeking visas.

Your first step is to file to the local visa processing center in the US; the list is the same for everyone. Then it goes to NVC and then to the consulate in Guangzhou, China.

K1s are running about 8-10 months right now through this consulate, assuming no unusual delays.
