Just Got the Green Card and travel question

Hello everyone,
I got my green card finally
I have a question about traveling. We have family business in my country and for 2 or 3 years I will be traveling back and forth to USA. I mean I will stay in my country 5 months and then I will come to USA for a week and then go back again. I am planning to do like this for 2-3 years not to loose my green card. But what confuses me is in the re-entry form it says if i stay more than 12 months outside the USA then i need permit. As a total yeah I will stay more than 12 months but every 6 months I will enter US. I hope this will not make any problem.
Any idea and comments will be so helpful.

It is NOT and has NEVER been enough to just come to the US once in a while.
A Permanent Resident has to reside in the US at all times. It is called "Permanent Residence" for a reason.
All trips abroad have to be temporary in nature. Furthermore, Permanent Residents have to file US resident tax returns and declare their worldwide income on them.
For an extended temporary absence, a reentry permit(I-131) has to be applied for. That has to be done while in the US.
But again, all absences have to be temporary, with a clear end date.

Henry thank you for the response, but I know a lot of people they do the same. For instance, one of my close friend's parents when they get the permanent resident status through consular processing for the first few years they were just coming in and out after few years they moved the USA.

It is true that some people is doing it, but If you repeated long stay abroad, you may get into trouble. I read some thread in Life after GC section. Somebody kept staying abroad long and visiting the US for a week or so every year, he finally got some stamp reading "I-407" in his passport at POE. It was said that officer told him it was a warning, but you know what form I-407 is.

I guess you should be ok, if the going and coming is just a temporary measure. I'm aware of quite a number of people with GC's who stay outsid ethe US but come in at least once every year for about 4 weeks or so, just make sure your continuos absence from the US is not longer than 11 months, obtain a reentry permit and plan to settle in the US eventually.
