With sweet talk and some luck, I was managed to find more info about my case. Apparently, my case was data-enetered in DC on 7/21 which was almost 1 month after my check was encashed whereas it should have taken only 10-12 days for it.
But as I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, there was some problems with cases for which checks where encashed around 6/21-6/25. It took about 20 more days for my case to appear in DC records than it usually takes and that explains the delay.
My guess is that my case (and all the other similar cases) will be reviewed next week as it is taking about 2 weeks for DC to process a case once they have it in their database. Of course, my assumption is based on all the data we have so far and it could be wrong.

Hi,
Do you have a phone number I can call to find out where my passport is ? I have sent a fax to get it back - its been more than the 5 days processing time they promise for sending it back....
I got my 485 approved after sending the passport and need to withdraw my application.
Please help me if you know the phone number to call...all I could find on the State Dept site was their fax number.

The phone number for Dept of State (Visa Services) posted in my earlier post was incorrect. It went to a voice mail
Well, I found the correct one on http://travel.state.gov/about/contact_how.html
This is the correct phone no: 202-663-1225
I called this morning - around 11:45 am PDT. Chose option 1 then 0. After a wait of about 15 minutes, a lady came on line - I told her my problem...sent passport on July 6th(date it reached St. Louis), need it back, sent fax on July 22nd, no response so far etc etc.
She said it takes "1 month" for the envelopes to reach Washington (from St Louis office) so it will reach Washington around Aug 6th or so - after which, I should expect the passport in about 2 weeks !!!!
I asked her if she could see if my passport has already reached Washington and she said she didnt have any info on that...no access to that info, she said....
I have read on this forum earlier that someone was able to get the info from the INS person about the processing status from a computer....can that person please tell me how to reach someone who will have access to that info.

It is ridiculous.. Even to get your passport back, it takes so long.. I am in the same boat as you.. My St. Louis date is 9th July.... My lawyer told me that he will write a letter to them for the recall... I donno how long it will take..

This is the way I found out about status of my PP from DC.
Called 202-663-1225 Options 1-3-1-0
Told the lady that everybody I know who submitted after me got their stamps, but I haven't received my PP. She said there's nothing she can help with. I asked her to make sure that my PP is not lost. She agreed to check that and told me that it was entered in the system on 7/21.
Now please note that all operators at DC may not be so friendly. So you may have to keep on calling till you get someone who'll help you.
