June 1 '03 priority date for 485 and travel question

Hi fellow GC seekers..
Now that we have June 1 2003 as the current priority date, finally I can file for 485. I have a VERY urgent question about travel if someone can PLEASE provide an input.
- My wife has already booked tickets for travel to india next month. Does she have to be present in order to file for 485? Or can i file for 485 before she leaves and then she can travel?
- I am also planning to go to india in Aug. Are there any restrictions on travel outside country once you file for 485? My current H1 is valid for next 3 yrs based on approved 140.

---------------Her I-485 can be filed when she is IN US,She should go out of US when she gets her I-485 filing reciept.

Or can i file for 485 before she leaves and then she can travel?

-------------NO, you need Valid Visa stamp to enter or apply AP EAD with I-485. if you want to use AP then AP need to be applied and approved and in your hands before you go out.
My current H1 is valid for next 3 yrs based on approved 140.
------------If you have valid VISA stamp in passport then enter with visa stamp.

Thanks a lot, and good to see your reply again.. You had been a great help during labor backlog stage too..
I have one question. I do not have a valid stamped visa in passport. Can i go to the local consulate in india and get it stamped and re-enter based on the H1 instead of AP?

I also have few questions related to AP, can anyone please help me with these questons?

1) How long its taking for AP approval these days?

2) Does AP approval is depend upon on Fingerprint notice/approval, EAD approval etc??

3) Is there a website were we can track the processing dates for AP?

---------------depends on service center, it may take 2-3 months

-------------------AP is based on Pending I-485 it has nothing to do with EAD
3) Is there a website were we can track the processing dates for AP?
-------------go to USCIS site you can check the dates of USCIS service center processing times

FP notice timeline

Thanks a lot again ginnu.. One last question (Sorry for coming up with so many ques)
- When do we get the notice for FP typically after filing 485?
- If me or my wife is out of country and we get the notice for FP and we do not get to act in time on it, is that going to create big problem? or can we appear later for FP when we are back?
