Job change from teaching to industry

Hi,

Below some questions for an expert.

I would need some advice: I'm a faculty at a University,
want badly change job. My H1B and then GC were obtained
through my current employer, and I worked there for
past 6 years (4 years on H1B, then 2 years on CG).

I want to leave (real bad) for different reasons,
didn't quit earler because of fear of loosing my GC,
like so many of us.

Now, after 2 years on GC, think it's safe ?!
I've had enough of Academia, after this bad experience,
and would rather like try to work at an industry (R&D).

In the GC application, the petition was for
"teaching and conduct research".
Can I change to another job type, at an industry ?

I must also say that my research at University has
involved projects funded by DOD, and therefore
a close eye might be shed on my job change.
Does USCIS work independently of other Govt. agencies ?

Your advice is highly appreciated.

That's not what my lawyer said one year ago.

Unless your lawyer is the General Counsel of USCIS, it's an opinion, nothing more.

Anyone with real-life experience?

Read through these forums; you'll see pretty consistent evidence that people can switch jobs a few months after a GC without any adverse effects. The law used to require EB applicants to stay for two years, but that hasn't been the case for almost two decades now.

I got my GC on December 2006. I gave them my 6 months notice and my last day is Jully 13. My lawyer said 6 months was enough to stay with the employer. BTW I have been with this employer for the past 6 years.

Dear Real canadian,

thanks for your replies ... Do we need to stay for a aparticular amount of time after receiving GC and i uderstand that we can chage the proffessions too. I have received my GC by self sponsered eb1 category.. pls suggest.

Thank you in adnvace...
