J1-Visa waiver to green card

Hello,

My J1-visa will be expired at the end of May 2005. If I get married to an US-citizen right now, I can apply for a green card after the married. Before I can apply for a green card, I need to get a waiver "NO OBJECTION" from my home contry. Do I have to leave the US, if I will not get a waiver before May 2005?

If yes, may I apply for a temporary status (for example a spouse visa status) allowing me to stay in the US until I can get a waiver from my home contry?

I would appreciate your help.

No, you cannot stay in the country solely on the basis of applying for your waiver. And there is no special spouse visa status. You have to either maintain your J-1 status, or leave the country.

Am I allowed to continue working on my J1-Visa (for instance, a contract extension), when I am married to an US-citizen?

if you get a contract extension (DS-2019 extended), you can continue working. But as far as I know, as soon as you apply for the waiver, you cannot get your program extended. I could be mistaken about the last statement, you better check out www.travel.state.gov section on J-1 visas and waivers.
