J1 extension to complete residency

I am currently on a J1 visa . I will be graduating in midsept 06 instead of june 06. Icurrently have a DS2019 till June 2006. My program will send me a new contract from june 06 to sept 06 in feb 06. My question is if I have a waiver approved at the time I apply for DS2019, will ECFMG give me the extension to complete my residency or will they reject it because i already have a waiver approved. I do need to do those 3 extra mos (june-sept) in order to graduate.
Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation? Thanks
 
as far as I know, if the waiver is applied for, you cannot get an extension on your program. However, if you receive the waiver, I don't think the same applies. You may want to read up on the regulations at DOS website.
 
Iam sorry LucyMo. That did not make any sense to me. Will ECFMG give me a new J1 in feb to complete the last 3mos of my residency if my waiver is already approved when I apply

let me rephrase,

To the best of my knowledge, which is not by any means complete, if the waiver is in progress you cannot get an extension. If the waiver has been granted, you can get an extention. However, I'd advise you to go to www.travel.state.gov and read up on regulations.
