J1 application with pending GC application...urgent, pls help!

Hello,
This is for a friend of mine who has been offered to work on a J1 visa, but has a pending GC application filed by his family. He has been told the J1 visa is difficult to get with a pending GC application. Can he secure the J1 visa on the argument that the GC application will take a long time to come thru (atleast 7-8 years from now), by the time, he will fulfill the 2 year Home residency requirement/waiver etc.

Also, he has been told that in case the J1 is rejected, there is a chance that the B1/B2 tourist visa he holds will also be rejected. So going for this interview will not reject the j1 but also any chance of going to the US as a tourist till he gets his GC approved, is that correct? can anyone suggest any solution?

please advise if some one has any experience on this.

Just let him to take a chance and apply. The J visa mostly will get rejected because of the immmigration intent by GC application (some thing against the purpose of issuing J visa), but no one know.
 
yes, we r thinking of that as well, but we have been told that the tourist visa also stands a good chance of being revoked...is that correct?
