Hi,

Me and my wife are on J1 visa. My J1 finished in November 2005 and her in June 2006. Can I go to India now June/ July 2005 and just get a J2 so that I dont have to go in november, and i can resign from my program or just go unpaid.?

I will appreciate any help.

what program are you in? Do you have HRR? if you don't have HRR, then you can simply apply for a change of status from J1 to J-2 in November before your J-1 status expires.

J-2 can apply for a work permit. You cannot volunteer for a position which is usually paid for.

Can you elaborate a bit more. Can I change status to J2 after going to India before my J1 finishes in November.

you can get J2 visa, but keep it in mind that if you have HRR for your J1 and now if you resign and go on J2 which will also have HRR (if your wife has HRR) then you will have get two HRR. so think before going for another J

I thought if you took J1 you only have one HRR to fulfill or in other words you could do them both togather.

Does any one know the facts

you have HRR from your J-1. If your spouse is a subject to HRR though her J-1 program, then as soon as you enter on J-2, you will get another HRR.
