Hi All,

I have Citizenship approval in hand. What I have told is that, if I apply for Passport it would take atleast 2 weeks. I need to travel in five days from the Citizenship approvel date to UK airport to receive my Mom and come back to US.

Can I temporarily not apply for Passport and travel with Green Card and once I have come back, I will apply for the passport.

Did anybody has done this for sure? Is there a govt. phone number I can call to find out if no one has this type of experience.

Thanks in advance.

Go to a regional passport agency and you can get a passport next day.
What green card???? They should have taken it away at your oath...

Didn't you surrender your green card when you signed the Nat. certificate?

Do you mean you were recommended for approval or you actually took oath and have certificate of naturalization?

I don't think the OP has a certificate of naturalization, the OP either has a N-652 from the interview or an oath letter. If he has the GC he can fly on the GC. I just hope he doesn't make the mistake of his life and claims to be a citizen without having the certificate of naturalization in hand and having done the oath. Please be clear on this, until you take the oath of naturalization you are not a US citizen. If you still have the GC indicates to me that you are still not a US citizen and can travel on your Green Card until the point you become a citizen and obtain your naturalization certificate.

They forgot to take the passport.

Hi All,
They have forgot to take my green card. I will hand it over to the authorities. Thanks for the info. I will go to the regional passport office and will apply.
Thanks,

They're not supposed to take your foreign passport. Only the green card is to be surrendered (and any other USCIS non-citizen documents if you still have them, like EAD or AP).

It is very important that you surrender your GC (take infopass and find the procedure first). Do not just mail it to anybody. If you took oath, you are a citizen now. That GC is not valid and you will get into problems if you use it to re-enter USA. You can go to local passport agency and get US passport the same day if it is an emergency.

i agree with the others...it could be their mistake but it will become your problem if you continue holding GC.

It's not a big deal if they didn't ask for GC at oath..others have reported the same in past. .Just destroy it, or keep it as your souvenir. The important thing is that you don't use it or that you loose it and it falls into the wrong hands.

I don't understand how they could forget to ask for it.
Aren't collecting green cards and having applicants sign the certificate the only USCIS tasks at oath ceremonies?!?

He-he, I am also curious about this. At my oath ceremony, the first thing they asked was to hand over your GC. Then, they made sure they have the proper certificate. That was their only task. The rest of the procedure was performed by the US district judge.

Sashpik, do you have a certificate of naturalization in hand? Did you take the oath that says:
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

I'm still not convinced that you are a citizen from the stuff you have posted. Could you please share your timeline with us, when did you have your interview and your oath ceremony?

It's not even clear that the OP had an oath ceremony. I think he/she got the approval note at the interview and believes that is citizenship.

Before you proceed any further, you need to clarify what document it is that you received.

For whatever reason "I hope he doesnt make the mistake of his life" sounds very funny to me :D but in actual sense calling yourself a citizen when you are not one is a big deal to the US governement and I also hope he doesnt make that mistake...

This reminds me, I have two green cards and I may have to voluntarily give both to the IO during the oath ( when ever I get to that point..)
