Is there any limit on 6yr chunks of H1

I was trying to get an answer to this.
I know this does not belong in this forum but was hoping to get more hits here
(I have it posted here http://boards.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=146451)

My question:
It is well-known that a person can stay on H1 for six years. After that six year period, he/she can stay out of US for a minimum of 1 year before coming back on H1. Given that he/she spends an year out of US, he/she can again enter on H1 and stay for another six years.
Is there any limit to this cycle? I mean, Is there any limit to the number of times this can be done?

Thanks for your attention.

There's no technical limit, but given the constantly-changing cap situation and restrictions on the H, never mind the insecurity, why would you want to?

First of all, thanks for responding. I was posing this question on behalf of a friend of mine. He is in his second 6yr chunk. He was told by someone that the maximum number of times one could do that is thrice. That got us curious.
Of course, it makes more sense to get a GC instead.

As far as I know, there is no limit on # of times one can use 6 year cycle.

Actually you don't even need to go through that if you act responsibly and want to settle down here in US. AC-21 rule (i.e. 7th and/or subsequent extension) enables you to stay indefinitely.
