Hi Freinds,
please clear my doubt. Is there a name check for renewing the Green card( nearing 10 years ) ? I know there is FBI name check for the naturalization process. Is renewing green card also involves the same time consuming, confusing hassle or is it just routine back ground check and finger printing for green card renewal?
Thanks in advance.

Considering that a green card renewal requires a biometrics fee for fingerprints, I think it's safe to assume they conduct an FBI check with them.

Thanks Bobsmyth

Well, it will be just another back ground check to see any criminal back ground or the time consuming tedious name check by FBI? I wanted to know whether the green card renewal is easy or getting US citizenship ? Is ther any body stuck in background check while renewing green card like many folks are stuck in N400 name check?

Name check is always by FBI. Their database is updated frequently with new names and they want to make sure that GC is not renewed if your name matches. Remember they got in trouble after approving visas for 911 terrorists and want to make sure it does not happen again.

The delays experienced with the FBI name check process does not affect the green card process as suggested by a USCIS memo last year that stated GC processing is not dependent on the completion of the FBI name check (ie. you could get your green card, while the FBI name check is still pending).

Also, you have to take the delays into context: the FBI and USCIS have reduced all pending name checks to under 6 months now, whereas just last year there were some name checks still pending for over 1 year.

Renewal of green card does require a criminal background check. This is the wrong forum for such question. You should put your question on green card forum than citizenship one.

The FBI FP verifies your FP with their database, whereas name check, verifies your name against several databases, including FBI.
