CRIS Stands for?
Case Status Information for Receipt Number and I believe that USCIS stands for United States Citizen and Immigraion Services.

CRIS is the database where everthing related to your case is stored, I think it stands for CASE RECORD Information Service...Its the database. IF you go to check your case status, and look at the link highlighted it says "CRIS"..here is the link..

https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp

but thanks for sharing your useful knowledge with us... :D

The fact that CRIS is in the link does not mean it is the database, but merely an application context on their web server (in other words, a folder where all of their web files are stored).

If thats the case then SEVIS which is USCIS's database to track foreign students is just a "website" location which does point to SEVIS..

If you are in a technical field, you know things are turned into applications, so a website location where they input your case status is not called "that website where you put your case status" but a cool sounding name, like CRIS or SEVIS or U.S VISIT....Most of them have a databases attached to it or else there is no way to track anyone...A website that inputs stuff into CRIS will point to CRIS...

And people who are about to be approved, they will notice that their case status can't be "found" in the system when they check online. The technical reason is that the officer has locked the database record for updates, if this was just a website, there is no way to application context files with history, only a DB can do that.

Point was USCIS and CRIS are the same which ayyubov was wondering about.

want ! wonderful point! well officer does not really have brains to lock a record. When they open a record, it is automatically locked (a program probably written by Indian programmers for these brain-dead CIS officers...) so that nobody can access and alter it until they are done with that record; hence reviewing I-485 file
