Folks,
Just want to know if anyone has been asked for their old passport at the interview. I know it is required to be brought to the interview. I am unable to find mine , but i have a copy of it. Still have 3-4 days to track it down, but do you think i'll be fine if i show them the copy? BTW, the old Passport expired more than 6 years ago.

Thanks

Hard to say. It all depends on the IO. If you have three days I would recommend to put some effort on finding it. If you don't find it, you might take your photocopies with you. However, photocopies are not originals, so the IO might or might not accept them. Many people don't get asked about passport. If you don't really find it then I would suggest the following:
1. Wait for the IO to ask for the old passport. If he doesn't ask then you are fine.
2. If the IO asks, say that you couldn't locate the old passport.
3. If it is still an issue, after you say that you couldn't find the old passport, then you might volunteer that you have some photocopies.

My take on this is that unless you have some trips to countries tied to international terrorism you should be fine. Most people don't get their passports checked. However, if you are, or have been in any country tied to international terrorism you might be scrutinized more closely.

That passport is outside the 5-year lookback period for continuous residence, so it is unlikely they will ask for it. But they can ask if they want to. However, if the old passport expired before you got a green card, asking for it can only be a fishing expedition looking for trips to no-no places like Cuba, because you were not required to be residing in the US before green card approval. If they ask for it, object and ask for the supervisor, and point out that it expired before green card approval.
