My 485/140 were concurrently filed in 02/2003. But my 140 is still pending. Is it possible to have my 485 approved without an approved 140 ? Have you seen such cases ?

Furthermore, if my 485 is approved without 140 approved, can I forget about the damn 140 stuff (since I get my GC) ?

No way..... this can not happen !! They have to clear I-140 first

Of course not. With the possible exception of Asylum cases, every approved I-485 needs to be supported by an approved I-130, I-140 or I-360.

How can an immigrant visa number be issued to you if you have not successfully petitioned for an immigrant visa (via the I-130/140/360)?

Technically "NO CHANCE".

But by mistake "YES".

One of our company employees got 485 approved, without approving 140. Filed 140 in Feb/Mar 2002 and 485 in June/Jul 2002. Still the same status. But got querry for 485 in Feb/Mar 2004[EVL, & paystubs]. Replied and approved in Jul 2004. PP stamped and also got Card. Still 140 has not approved and still showing the same message as Received....But lawyer told that his 140 has to be cleared, and he initiated the enquiry for 140 after his 485 approval. I don't know what happened after that....

Yes its possible. We have a case in our company which is exactly what Sree1965 has described. A guy got his 485 approved, pp stamped and got his card but his 140 was still not approved. He too has initiated an inquiry in his case

How did he know the I-140 was not approved? It may have been approved but online status not updated. Doesn't explain why no approval notice was sent, but I cannot remember if the beneficiary gets a courtesy copy or not.

beneficiary will not get any courtesy copy for I-140 approval. Only the lawyer and the company will get the copies.

Neither Lawyer nor Company was not received any 140 approval, and online message was not changed. Still u think it might have approved? I don't think so...

But lawyer already initiated the enquiry for the I-140.

Intresting scenario. My I140 shows not cleared, but when I contacted the senetors office they said that it was approved in 04/XX/2004. They also pulled out some more data regarding my 485 and it all is valid and so looks authentic. But still web says the same, and my office has not received an approval notice.
