Specially when there was a traffic misdemeanor and case was dismissed by judge. No arrests!!!
Wondering is it worth it??

What do mean by apply for DoD security clearance and if its worth it?

You can't apply for clearance..it has to be initiated by employer when security clearance is needed.

What I guess, the OP want to apply for some jobs, which need security clearance. These jobs are meant for Citizens with security clearance.

I already have US citizenship and my employer wants me to fill out all the paperwork for DoD clearance for
which they will pay, but I am wondering, had anybody applied for this, being a naturalized, and previous traffic issues?
thx

What kinds of questions are asked in security clearance form? Does it say including traffic violation or
anything like expundged records should be disclosed too?

The DoD security clearance process is extremely detailed and everything in your background is checked up. Interviewing neighbors, former neighbors, etc is pretty standard. One of my friends went through it some years ago and from his description, they leave no stone unturned.

FTW - you should be ok. I already am at certain level of clearance - they go back upto 7 years - and get all details on where you worked, where you lived, whom you did and where etc.
And it all should be verifiable. Thats the key.

oh yes,
head starts to spin when I look at the amount of paperwork/info they ask for, but not sure about expunged records though.
good point to look at!!

What is the worse case if one fail security clearance? If the consequence is just not getting the job plus
some embarassment, then I think just go ahead. If something cvan trigger authorities to contact USCIS to
re-investigate your eligibility for citizenship even green card etc, then you should think it thru.

Not long ago, a female FBI trainee was de-naturalized because she failed lie detector test.

i don't think there is any lie detector test for DoD. But I just want to make sure that clearance is not denied due to a silly mistake. However I think getting records expunged before applying would make a difference. Not sure though!

Getting the records expunged won't make a difference. USCIS won't expunge them, as can the DoD and FBI.

The secret to getting a security clearance is declaring everything and being completely honest. DoD doesn't care if you ran a stop sign three years ago or drove 20mph over the limit. They care a great deal if you are honest and don't try and hide things.

Are you only referring to your traffic ticket or is there something else you're afraid they will find about that you previously withheld?

It make difference if DOD does not explicitly say expunged record need to be disclosed so that one does not need to disclose. Just let the background to find out or not. If they do not find out, you get thru. If they find out, you can
answer it is expunged so I don't need to answer.

If they really use lie detector, one can easily fail for questions like "Have you ever commited
a crime or offense for which you were not arrested".

That is why if the president want all cabinet memeber to go thru a lie detector test, you will bet
vice president and all secretaries would rather resign than do it

It was posted here lats year. Lie detector failure triiger investigation.

The bottomline is: unless you are sure your naturalization are at least 95% perfect, stay away from sensitive government posiitions at least
think about it thouroughly enough.

If DoD (like USCIS) verifies if you have ever been convicted of a crime, but you fail to disclose on the grounds it was expunged, do you think your argument will hold up?

And DoD won't care if you smoked dope in college or molested a goat on your uncle's farm as a kid. They want to ensure that you have nothing to hide from them, so you cannot be blackmailed.

I don't know. I am not sure it will hold up, but I am not sure it won't hold up. It at least male the applicant the dillema whether to disclsoe or not much less serious.

The DoD may not care but USCIS may get hold of it. Smoking dope apparently is a deportable offense that wouild make a person uneliggble for citizentip
or any other immigration benefits after smoking dupe. If the DOD job applicant did not disclose that on N400 but now
DOD lie detector found it, the person might face de-naturalization
