Hello every one,
I am a Federal Govt employee who is on GC for last 5 plus years and thinking of applying for US citizenship. But reading about people stuck in FBI name check for years scares me a lot. For my employment in this Federal job I've been finger printed by FBI official who came to our final job interview place (finger print taken in cards not electronic) and we have been told they will conduct verification and there was a state police verification also. Is this Federal employment verification and N400 namecheck is same? Please give your advises.

They aren't exactly the same as they use different databases. What they have in common is that they access FBI records, but part of the USCIS name check process also accesses other databases, like CBP.

Thanks Bobsmyth, so it means I may have a good chnace of clearing the name check since i cleared verification fpr federal employment? The whole name check process looks so confusing and thinking about the possiblity of stuck in it is really scary.

You are worrying unnecessarily

Hi,

Based on the speed with which USCIS and FBI are working (and targets they have set), the namechecks going forward will be completed in 30 days for normal name checks and at most 90 days for some complications. If yours is a straight forward case it is max 30 and complicated max 90 days.

I would say go ahead and apply..chances are you will pass through like a breeze.
I was stuck in name check for about...19 months but that is in the past.

All the best
