Hello there
as the title say I'm an Iraqi refugee, I've been living in egypt for the past 4 years, and i've applied at the UNCHR since my first day here and finally got the Interview around Jan 2007, and applied for resettlement since the day they said that Iraqis can apply now (it was unavailable at first for those who didn't work with the US army), long story short, our case got accepted after a long long time and we got our first "resettlement interview" as we call it Nov 2009, then they refereed us to the IOM Jan 2010 and we did the first interview at the IOM the same week, all the interview so far are with Egyptians who works at the UNHCR and/or IOM,
the second "IOM" Interview was with the American agent (or the Sworn interview as some will call it) the Refugee Officer at US Department of Homeland Security was last April,
and after couple of weeks we got the results as "deferred" for "further review of your eligibility for refugee resettlement in the United States is necessary",
meanwhile we did the biometric scan or the fingerprint scan as some will call it, and did the medical exam, and we calls the IOM every sunday to check about our case and we got everything in order,
we got the fingerprint result as approved or clear or check (not sure), the same for the medical exams and they told us the the security checks or the security clearance (not sure what it called) arrived and you got accepted and now all you waiting for is the State approval and the fly date, we can't be more happy :D, and as i said we call every Sunday here to check to find the IOM employee telling us that you are still waiting for the security clearance, we went to the IOM in Cairo which is about 130 miles from where we live next Wednesday to see what's goin on, we met some one there didn't catch his name or his job title but he said that your mum security clearance didn't arrive yet!!! and only you and your father got it, and you have completed all the necessary papers and checks and you now waiting for the state approval and then the fly date, but your mum need her security clearance first and they don't know how long that would take!!!,
We are only 3: both of my parents and myself with ages 70, 71 (my parents) and me 26, both my parents in a case and me in a separated-linked case, and my father is the the Main-applicant,

my question is how long would that take and do you know what all these checks are ? and are these checks just a paperwork at this stage or is it possible to get a rejection/un-approval at this point ?

sorry for the long post just want to give you all the facts first, and i'm sorry if i posted this in the wrong sub-forums.
Thanks in advance :)
MJ

Come on guys 2 days and 73 views and no answer :(

The security clearance usually consists of fingerprint, IBIS name check, and FBI name check. The FBI name check sometimes takes longer for people who have common name. There is no timeframe for the security clearance. It can take 1 month or 1 year.

Thanks assylum
we've got the fingerprint in 2 weeks, so it must be one of the name checks now,
I hope it wont take 1 year, we really don't have it in us to take another year in Egypt...
