Once submitted, DS260 cannot be updated. It can be updated only at US Consulate that too on the date of your interview .
Has anybody updated the DS260 for IR5 is it was past 1 yr?
Dear Applicant:

Thank you for writing to our office.

We understand that you are unable to use the immigrant visa before the expiry date and wish to know if the visa validity can be extended.

In response to your questions, issued immigrant visas are generally valid for six months or in some cases three months after issuance. If an applicant does not use an issued immigrant visa within its period of validity, a replacement visa may only be issued if the applicant proves to the satisfaction of the consular officer that he/she did not use the issued visa because of reasons beyond his/her control and for which he/she was not responsible.

CR1/2 and IR1/2 applicant’s applying for re-issuance of their Immigrant Visa will need to log in to http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in and select “Consulate Appointments” in order to schedule your appointment at the Consulate.

For Extension of an Expired Visa Applicants should bring the following documents:
Fees of $325, which must be paid by international credit card or in cash. Please carry exact change if paying in cash. As the consular rate of exchange can change, check it at http://www.ustraveldocs.com the day before your interview to obtain the current consular rate of exchange. Consular fees are not refundable.DS 260 confirmation page
Two recent photographs (2 x 2 inches)
Obtain an updated Medical Report (No X-ray films or discs). A list of panel physicians is available at http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/immigrant_visas.html. Medical reports are valid for 6 months, and in certain cases 3 months. The visa is only valid for the duration of the medical report’s validity.
Obtain an updated Police Clearance Certificate from the Regional Passport Office. Police certificates are valid for one year from the date of issuance.

Note : Any update regarding the IR5 visa category you will be communicated and you will be receiving a official communication from embassy and then you may schedule a appointment if you haven't received any communication you are not allowed to schedule the appointment.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

Interesting long 'Note:' at the bottom.
I still have not seen example email when they proactively reach out to you and ask to make the 'consulate appointment' for IR5 renewal.

Are you able to schedule appointment with releclinic by showing them consulate appointment confirmation? They could not schedule it for us saying that the case is not open for releclinic to submit records electronically to the consulate. Let us know how this process works.
Nope, releclinic is asking to get a letter from consulate to make the records offline. I have sent an email to US consulate.

Go through your local Congressman and file a request for help. You have been in same status quo for months now!

did you have to update ds260 or was the ds260 less than an yr old?
It was updated in April 2021 as theirs was over a year old and they were supposed to go for an interview in April and then May which got cancelled due to rising covid numbers. The DS260 application says it expires in April 2022.

I don't think one needs to worry about the DS260 needed to be updated before scheduling the appointment like some have said here. In my parents case, I had to schedule an interview for them to get the medical done. Then after medical, updated the DS260 just two weeks before the interview date which was then cancelled as I mentioned above.

I haven't seen anybody post here if they/parents/relative have had an interview since June 7th at Mumbai. Curious to know what's going on there.

How were you able edit the DS260 in CEAC?

At the ceac website. Don't know what you mean by How.
DS 260 is in read only state (cannot makes changes or save) at CEAC site. Does it become editable after scheduling consulate appointment if older than a year?

this is what travel.state.gov FAQ states-"Once you submit your application, by clicking the “Sign and Submit Application” button on the "Sign and Submit" page, you will be unable to access your application again without the assistance of NVC for immigrant visas, KCC for Diversity Visas, or the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at which you plan to apply."

So, once submitted, did you have to contact embassy/ustraveldocs to get it to reopen at ceac (DS260)?.

I have no idea what you are saying. I was able to edit it after scheduling the medical. But didn't know if that was a necessary step to be editable.

I tried to update DS 260 at CEAC site. Could not change anything or save the form.
I assume you were able to update-save and resubmit. Correct?

The Language on the Mumbai Consulate Website is tricky and goes both ways for IR5. What I gather is they will email you and then you have to go into the portal and find appointment. I tried to find appointment on June 8 and got blocked for 3 days while trying permutations.

Where to Find when your DS260 expires? My parents was issued Nov 2019 and their May 2021 interview in Mumbai got cancelled.
