IO suggested taking InfoPass appt

My wife today had her interview and passed...yay... After everything and receiving her approval letter - the IO asked her if she had any questions. She asked about my case and told her I had received yellow letter a while back but no IL yet. The IO said she would strongly recommend taking an InfoPass appointment since many times apparently - applications sit there for no good reason without being scheduled for interview.

So I have taken an appointment today for the 28th - we will see if it is any help.

Anybody else hear anything similar? Does InfoPass really help?

Yes, Infopass can help. My wife received her oath letter, but I never received mine. I went for an Infopass and they were able to print out a IL for me..they never sent one out in the first place for me (I doubt it got "lost in mail")

Wow - good to know that. Amazing such important things can fall through the cracks in the blackhole called USCIS.....

I too am waiting for my IL. I got the yellow letter a week ago. What is considered as a "normal" waiting period between the two?

I also have received Yellow letter over 2 weeks ago and still waiting for my IL. I called and sploke to second level IO last Friday and she said I am in Q for interview.

I don't know if there is such a thing as "normal" - as you can see from my signature - it is almost 3+ weeks since my yellow letter.

Don't know what is meant by in queue... I have also been told several times "You have not yet been scheduled yet" - dunno if it means I am in queue or not....

It can can take anywhere from 1-12 weeks after FP to receive your IL. In the mean time be patient and don't drive yourself crazy thinking when you'll get IL.

What is a "yellow letter"?

Has anybody else tried an Infopass appointment to expedite the N-400 process?

Good luck to you all, comrades..

The yellow letter is called "Case Status Review". It says they have gone over your file and tells you to bring the following to the interview. However, it is NOT the interview letter and doesn't tell you when your interview will be. The interview letter follows at a later time.

BK, my IL took 9 weeks after the FP. I did not get a yellow letter so I am not sure, but from memory of your other posts, you still seem to be well inside the loop. Be calm. :)

So finally today I went for my InfoPass appt. in Washington DC Field office in Fairfax VA. It was an 8 am appt. but the reception desk didn't open until past 8:15. Finally I was called to see the IO at about 8:25.

The IO informed me that my second FPs were unreadable too and that they should have sent an RFE already to get the local police clearance. He also mentioned that NBC is fairly inconsistent in its approach - sometimes they forward the file before they receive all the material and have us collect it - sometimes they just wait until everything is complete before forwarding the file to the DO.

He said there was nothing he could see that should have prevented the RFE from being sent already. He said since the case was withing "normal" processing time - read 6 months - that there was nothing Fairfax DO could do to make NBC forward the file.

He also said if they have the file - they are usually able to answer questions much better. He was very courteous and said unfortunately I needed to wait until things moved ahead from NBC or until 6 months have passed since filing.

Should the damn process to send out the RFE be fairly automatic if FPs are unreadable? Why does it have to be over 45-50 days of no one touching it - even if to send an RFE? This is very frustrating.....and so I continue to wait.......:(

I have InfoPass appointment today at 1:30 pm, let see what kind of excuse I am getting.

compuser1973,

Can you send email to VSC regarding RFE? So they can do something since local DO is helpless.

Can you used old FP notice and go to an ASC and explain what happenbed and do you third FP?

Ususally why is FP not readable? Does it happen because FP is not done properly or just someone fingers are very special?

I would be curious to know if you called the FBI at anytime to find out the status of your FP? They usually clear it the same day if all is well.

I suppose I could try sending an email to VSC - I may wait another week or so to see if things move and do something early next month.

I don't think they require you to do a third round of FP - and Alexandria ASC is kinda out of the way to go to where as my police station is less than a mile from where I live :)

I don't know if the issue is with my fingerprints or the technician who took those :( - I did not have any problem with FP for green card. So unless my fingers changed in last five years to a stage where prints are not readable - I am not sure what the problem is :)

I had already called the FBI FP line - but FBI only tells you that they processed the FP and sent those back to USCIS. They do not give you the actual "success" "failure" result to anyone except the requesting agency.

It is said FBI only tell you the results are sent back to USCIS. The results
could be (1) no criminal activity is found based upon FP matching
(2) criminal activity si found with FP matching (3) FP is not readable.

They won't tell you what kiond results they send back

Oh! Is that so! I can understand them not telling the result (whether the applicant passed or had some criminal activity) but I would have assumed that if the result was inconclusive they would at least tell you that. Damn! Its senseless to get that irrelevant info from them then .
