invite friend for wedding

I am not sure if anyone has come across this, but i am looking to invite a friend and his family over to united states for a wedding. He does not have a visa and an indian resident. what are the basic steps to get him a visitor visa? even for
1 -3 months is good enough..

Do not invite him, let him apply himself for a B (Tourist visa), if he has merit he will get one.
