interview in 3 weeks, affidavit of support required?

New member here, first off thanks for all of you for taking the time to provide details and share your experiences for the citizenship process.

My wife has been a GC holder for 5 years. She got it through her family. We were married 3 years after she got her GC (I am a US citizen). She is however applying for citizenship based on having the GC for 5 years (since we have not been married for 3 years yet).

She recently submitted the N400 form, did the fingerprints, and her interview is in about 3 weeks. The only concern she has is that she is not employed. Will I need to file form I-130 or any other forms showing that I support her financially? She does not work because she does not need to, and I provide full support for her.

She should be prepared to answer how she supported herself without a job. Depending on the IO, she may be requested to present proof at interview of how she was supported.
 
Thats what I thought. We do have a joint bank account in the US, and I can provide pay slips for the past 3 years. However do I still need to fill out form I-130? Will they recognize that as proof of support or are there any other forms required?

A letter from you indicating that she was a housewife with no income and that you supported should be enough. No need for I-130.
 
She should bring her marriage certificate and tax transcript/return to the interview as proof of her marriage and your income.

You mean your tax transcript can also be used as support evidence provided you have your wife as a dependent on tax form.
 
It would also be her tax transcript if they filed jointly. And it's almost certain they filed jointly, given that the tax total for a one-income couple would almost always be lower than filing separately.

But yes, if they filed separately she would bring his (jamal81) tax transcript.
 
We filed seperatley, as she wasnt making any income and I was making below the minimum required to pay taxes on for those working overseas. I have filed my taxes every year.

So the marriage certificate and my tax transcript should be sufficient to prove income from when got married to this date?
 
The naturalization officers are not all nut cases. A simple, "My husband has a good job and supports me." is all it's gonna take.

Calm down before you have a stroke or something.
 
Regardless of employment or lack thereof, it is still quite common for the interviewer to ask for the tax transcript and/or marriage certificate. So she should bring that stuff anyway.

All she needs to say is she is a home maker, there will be no questions about how she is supporting herself, it doesn't hurt to take the statement just in case but 99.9 percent, the IO wouldn't even ask for it.
