Father now lives in the US and obtained an Asylee status. His wife and children do not live in the US and were invited to the International Migration Organization and to the US Embassy for intervew. As i know they apply for derivative asylum status, am i right?
What should they prove at the intervew at the Embassy - relationship with the main applicant (here is husband / father) or the facts of an oppression?
Thank you in advance!

The main point of the interview will be to prove the relationship. The derivative will also need to prove that he does not have a disqualifying criminal history etc.

What does the International Migration Organization have to do with it? I thought they would have to go straight to the US Embassy.

Thank you very much! I heard that derivative asylum applicants have also prove the facts of persecution, but its much more difficult than simply to prove the relationship...

And, fortunantly, nobody from this family has criminal history...
Everything gonna be ok...I hope :)

No. The invitation was send by the IOM and it will process the documentation and transfer all the documents to the embassy and set the interview date.

Could you please keep me posted on your progress? My wife is going through the same. She received a letter from the IOM requesting her to send them a photocopy of her passport about 2 weeks ago. I wonder how long the process will take and what move the IOM will make next.

Ok! We already transferred to the IOM passport photocopies. After that they sent us the forms for filling and bringing to the interview with the instructions. We sent photocopies through the fax though our postal service does not work good so we had an opportunity to call them by the phone asking if they really received this copies. By this we knew that the interview date is already appointed, but the letters with the forms for filling we received later.

The terms depends on the cause of your case. After sending the photocopies we received the forms in about 1 month and after one month else we have to appear at the interview.

I've heard from few people that consular asked the spouse and children about the persecution incident that happened to Primary Asylee and when they were unable to tell the incident, consular called them after 6 month (I am talking about the COP interview to I-730 approved derivatives) for re-interview.
This is weird but prepare for it as well.

Oh, its very good addition. Thank you! I believe we would be ready to answer such questions, because such incidents really take place.
As i understood we should be ready to answer any question concerning our relationship and the presecution, may be not only about us, but about the Primary Asylum too.

What will happen at the interview for deravitive asylee? A lot will depend on the interviewing officer. He may just ask them their names and a few questions intended to estublish relationship, and once satistied may approve. Or he may choose to ask questions as difficult as who were the witnessess at the engagement of the relationship, or what they had eaten the night before for supper. The important thing is that the family's narrative as a whole should be consistant. They are looking for inconsistancies. For the most part deravative asylees are not grilled to prove persecution; rather, they are screened to establish their relationship with the principal. Even if they are asked questions from the principal's file, which will happen, they are intended to make sure that the claimed the relationship is true.
Be consistant
As to what business does the IOM has in this matter. IOM is responsible for the most part arranging refugees for travel across the world. In some cases, the US government or other international entities contract the IOM to conduct medical exams, preliminary file screening or even fingerprinting. At the end the final interview is conducted by officers for the homeland security whether this happens at IOM compound or the US embassy...doen't not matter....good luck my friend....

Thank you for your response! We are real family, but we did not meet our father for about 3 years and we afraid of such questions as, for example, food preferences, but at the same time we know everything about each other.
We hope for the better.
