Interview experience. Deccision can not be made.

One of the close friend had interview a week back. It took about 40mins.

he passed the exam (Test). The IO went through all questions in N 400. Gone through travel outside US.
Just two visits since 5 years . Same job and company since start to end (Apply GC to present), all taxes
paid, no traffic tickets. For all it looks easy striaght case.

IO did not asked any documents, even he offered to check (like employment, taxes, birth cerficate, etc)

IO only took diver license, Green card , social security and made copies.

Io also took, Passport while checking the travel dates, asked just two trips in 5 years. and made
copies of each page of passport (the whole booklet) and read couple pages of front and back.
By the way he is from India and his passport is from India.
At the end, IO told deccision can not be made. As some things needed to be checked out. We will let u
know the decision.

for his wife (dependent, got GC through husband) , different IO took the interview, Interview was for
just 10mins, and she got Recommended for Citizenship letter and congrats. Did not took any copies of docs,
not even license, passport and green card. Green card was only checked.

Did anybody had this type of experience ? Why IO took all pages of passport? Please provide your
experiences and comments. How long it will take for them to make decision.

If the IO did not tell your friend, there is no way to know what the issue was and how long will it take. Hopefully, it is just some validations which are pending.

You indicate 2 trips, hopefully they were not long.

Taking a copy of the entire passport indicates (to me) that they want to recheck the trip dates. Maybe there was a big inconsistency between the travel dates he reported, and the travel dates that showed up on his system ... a few days here and there does not matter, but a major difference will require scrutiny. It could just be revalidation of dates, it could be a mix up with some other person's data, it could be ... nothing. And maybe it has nothing to do with passport.

Straightforward validations should get sorted out in a few weeks, and the friend should get the oath letter.

So far so good...the IO needed more time to make decision....so give him a week or two and see what he
has to say...
 
there must be discrepancy about trips mentioned in N-400 and the passport.....May be IO wanted to double check.
Hope your friend didn't miss out any other trip.

Also, For all others, I think its must to carry the expired passport and the renewed passport to the interview.....Looking at this case, if IO wanted to make copy of our passport to double check our trips, then we will have to show both old and new, just in case.
 
I don't thing there is som weeething to worry. You will get your oatrh letter within three weeks. Please be patient and carm. No need to worry abouth the trip you made.

When I had my Interview, they took copies of my passport although the process of my interview was smooth and completed successfully. So, I believe it should not raise any red flags just because case officer took your friend's passport to make a copy. Let's hope for the best and wish his case goes through without hiccups.

Are IO are pre assigned , that who is going to take interview to which candidate. etc. Or they pick first come
first basis.
 
3 weeks passed after interview. No news from IO for my friend. Not even for his wife, since she was given passed and congrates letter. But she told the her IO that she want to do OATH with his husband.

What should be done now. Wait..... Wait. Or can they do anything?

My friend called 800 number. Talked to customer representive. Same standard answer your case is in range with in processing. How we can talk to second level support?. It is 4 weeks from interview.

Your friend cannot do anything except wait. USCIS has 120 days to act. One cannot even file SR- service request before 90 days. He can visit USCIS on Infopass and try his luck periodically say once a month. He can approach congressperson after 60 days and try to use pressure through them.

If everything fails file 1447(b) in district court after 120 days. I am at 83 days and still counting.

My friend talked to Officer after a luck today through 800 number. The officer looked the case. And said the case is not approved and it is waiting for Supervisor approval.

Why it is waiting for supervisor. Is this normal procedure. How long it will take?

Your friend who happens to be you should just wait till the case is approved. There is nothing normal about what USCIS does, so loosing sleep over this issue won't change a thing. You just need to wait for the right time, which is when the case is finalized internally via USCIS local procedures, to come back on the form to moan or rejoice.

Just you like you at your job, you can't go off and purchase a new $10000 software without prior approval, especially if your purchasing limit is $8000, the IO has the same limitation. I would assume all would understand this procedure. When a decision is made, I am sure they won't sit on it, you will be 2nd or 3rd to know, after the IO and his/her supervisor.
 
Is it really you or your friend? In either case, it is not unusual for supervisory review to take a little while. If the officer who interviewed you is a new officer the quality control check will take longer. Just be patient. If you have a compelling reason to rush them make an INFOPASS appointment (notice I said compelling. That you are just impatient does not justify bothering them).
