Folks,
I had my interview this morning. Reached there at 7:30 AM for my 8AM interview having parked at one of those paid parking spots nearby (there are several). Had to stand along with about 20 more people in front of me out in the cold since they had not officially opened the building yet. We were allowed inside some 15 minutes later. Went through the metal detectors and then up to the 15th floor. Submitted my IL and then had to wait for almost an hour to be called in. When my turn came, my IO escorted me to her office. She kept saying "Sir" in almost every sentence which was a bit unnerving for me. Anyway, I took the oath to tell the truth. She then asked for my GC and all passports I might have used in the past 5 years (two - one expired - in my case) and then she asked me about the date of my previous trip outside the country. I mentioned where I went but said that it was a while ago since I did not remember the exact date. In any case, she was totally fine with my answer. She then proceeded to give me the civics test. I answered all questions correctly. The English test was expectedly lame and there were no issues there. She then went through my application line by line but at a very fast pace. She was rattling off the questions and then comparing the answers. At the end, I believe, not more than a max of 10 minutes, she approved my application and congratulated me. BTW, I had taken a boatload of documents, none of which was asked for. I then had to wait until about 10:50 AM for my Nat. Cert . to be ready. When I got it, I was asked to head to the Oath room right away so as to not miss the next batch. The Oath ceremony was over in about an hour including wait time, snapping photographs etc.
Elvis left the building at 12:30 PM, a brand new citizen, with a smile and a tune to match
Will apply for passport tomorrow. Could have wrapped it up today but I was riding the clouds, no longer in terra firma.
